View Full Version : Godaddy vs. Namecheap
platinumn23 03-16-2006, 12:50 AM | Well,
I just wanted to see what exactly would happen if I tried to order a domain name AFTER someone ordered the domain name..
I was chatting with Ryan from iHostDev on AIM about a domain name he was wanting to purchase.. So he told me the domain name.. I joked saying I just bought it.. he responded "Funny, I just did" about five minutes AFTER he said that.. I Really purchased the domain name from Namecheap.com (as it showed as being available still)... Everything went good... Successful , the whole nine yards..
About 15 mins after I got the domain name I asked Ryan just to verify the domains he purchased and from where.. he told me the 2 he purchased AND where he ordered from (Godaddy.com)... Then I told him what I did..
So, Have we learned something from this?? NameCheap registers the domain names faster then Godaddy :D
Just my .02 on the two registrars
BTW; Dont worry, Im going to give him the domain name ;) |
Zaitech 03-16-2006, 03:05 AM Maybe he lied about buying it just so that you wouldn't buy it? |
| Interesting. From my experience, when I register a domain at GoDaddy, it always appears in my account within 1 minute of the purchase. Maybe there was a hiccup in validating his credit card or something, which took a little longer. |
I prefer NameCheap.com. I just find their domain interface much better. |
It is. The ToS is better too :) |
carlitosway 03-16-2006, 08:15 AM namecheap uses enom so enom probably registers faster. between namecheap and godaddy I would use dominsite |
Dave Zan 03-16-2006, 06:04 PM A difference a few seconds or a few minutes can make. :D |
I don't think this example proves anything about the 2 registrars, imho. |

edskii 03-19-2006, 08:07 AM it always appears in my account within 1 minute of the purchase.

PyroPixel 03-19-2006, 08:17 AM I prefer NameCheap.com. I just find their domain interface much better.
I agree with namecheap.com as well :) |
technanny 03-21-2006, 05:38 PM Godaddy by far. They have excellent phone support and are icann accredited which namecheap cannot say for either item |
Yes they can. They bought a registrar. |
technanny 03-21-2006, 08:01 PM Yes they can. They bought a registrar.
I would imagine they would need to take the name of the company they bought for that statement to be true |
I don't know the legalities or technicalities, but they own an ICANN registrar. It's part of their expansion plans. Their reseller program uses them, not enom, iirc. |
efjay 03-22-2006, 02:06 PM My experience with Namecheap has been good, especially for a newbie to domain registration. Easy management interface, quick response to my support request. Thumbs up so far. |
