At the end of June (possibly sooner), we will be offering UN-managed windows 2000 advanced servers. Before we roll out these servers, we'd like to get some feedback on what the WHT community would like on these machines, types of software installed, etc

Thanks in advance

Here are a couple of software items that we have found to be most commonly used:

- If you are not going to do any LB or clustering, forget Advanced Server and stick with server. It's a lot cheaper! :)
- The most common mail programs are: Merak Mail; IMail and a few Exchange servers (unless absolutely necessary, avoid Exchange)
- The most common FTP programs are: Serv-U and BulletProof FTP. If the server is just for a couple domains, IIS FTP works great!

Hope that helps :)

Windows 95 or 98 is what I like, if you could install those that would be nice, it would really be nice if you put on a few games, keep me busy :)

I am sure you dont want your server to crash every 10 hours as win95 and 98 do! Windows 2000 or NT are best as for windows!

Nope. Terminal Services. So basically I think there is no need for a third party remote control software.

With Windows 2000 Server, there are very few reasons to use PCAnywhere any more. Windows 2000 Server comes with Terminal Services. TS is much faster than PCA and is more secure.

And best yet.... IT'S FREE! :D
