virgil 05-12-2002, 01:13 PM $4.95 Basic Plan (Windows 2000):
$4.95 monthly + $19.95 monthly
Unlimited transfer, but forget about it first for a while.
The service seems to be okay, and support is very helpful. They can be contacted via phone and pleskdesk (ticket system). They said they have 24/7 e-mail support but I really never found their e-mail address in their site or in the setup e-mail they sent me upon subscribing.
My disappointment is on the site control panel. First, it looks somehow insecure. I logged out, clicked the back button, and it goes back to my account info page that shows my name, address, and e-mail. Nothing really major, but I really can't live with that. I also have this hunch that my passwords are stored in clear text (The control panel is an ASP page). But that's just a hunch.
Continuted...
virgil 05-12-2002, 01:15 PM Most of the items in the control panel work fine. Some, however, have quirky interfaces, and some are just too useless. The MSSQL, MySQL, Add new domain name, and sub-domain name panels are basically request forms. You type your request in the form and it gets sent to the people and they approve it manually. You get an e-mail confirming the outcome of the task.
Some panels are instructional. Password protect file/directory panel display instructions on how to set-up NT rights to files and folders. The second instruction described is just blatantly wrong. It says you may delete the user first, before changing that user's rights and permissions. But if you delete the user first, the file or folder will now contain an "Unknown Account" user, which you cannot remove. If you continue to obey that procedure they described, you'll will up the unknown account user mess for that file or folder. Again, this might not be important to many, but I find it quite annoying and lacking in control.
virgil 05-12-2002, 01:15 PM There is also a free scripts panel that takes you too www.cgi-resources.com. Hmm..might be convenient. I also recommend using FTP instead of the File Manager control panel. It's quirky and you don't get an alert when deleting a file or folder.
Last of the control panel: There is a submit search engines panel that lets you promote your site. When you enter, there is a text box that lets you type your URL, and a submit button. Submitting the URL once is free, and $9.95 for the subsequent submits. But sadly, I really don't know what it does. There is no description about what it does and how it promotes your site. You don't get a confirmation at all. I checked my logs and I don't see a robot or spider or anything suspicious. I just told myself that I didn't see this panel.
The support I think is great. The people are curteous when answering my tickets and they have this "helpful" tone in their messages. But I think I had way too many tickets  so I just left.
BenEDH 05-12-2002, 05:01 PM Are they using h-sphere? sounds like it...
as for the site submitter, what it does is submits your url to searhc engines, it may take up to 8 weeks fro their spiders/robots to actually visit your site, but once they do, it will help your site ;)
bababooey 05-13-2002, 04:30 PM I have a buddy who is using them. I have been monitoring his site and they have excellent uptime. I can't say that their bandwidth is high. I think I was getting 40kbs download from his site. Also, the site offers "Unlimited Bandwidth," so I know that the people on this board will slam it.
Another thing is that you have to pay for the entire year up front. They claim that if you ever want to pull out, they will pro-rate you a refund for the unused months, but I suspect this process is a pain in the ass (do they cut you a check or credit back your CC?).
Also, I called their customer support last week and specifically asked whether they offer IMAP mail. The rep said "Yes," but my friend says that they do not.
Anyone else have experiences with them?

They are not using h-sphere. H-Sphere actually does everything live, this one sends the request to live people. Also, in H-Sphere, after you log out - you loged out, you will not get back in.
