Hi,
Just recently I have been checking out the usual oversellers. On ******'s website, I see they are now offering a package for $6.95 a month that offers 10 gig of storage and 3.5TB of bandwidth per month.

All you hosting guru's out there, do you think that it is even remotely possible to use all allocated resources without busting their CPU limit? For example, do you reckon you could host 10 gigs of linux distros and use all that bandwidth per month without maxing the server CPU?

Read the TOS.

First divide that 3.5 TB by 365 to get the amount of bandwidth you are allowed to use each day. Second you are not allowed to upload a file larger than 10 meg.
If you break either policy by going over the daily allocated bandwidth or loading a file larger than 10 meg your account can be terminated and your credit card charged $150.00 for each domain you have hosted on their servers.

Heck of a deal.

I try to follow the rule of five. I'm not sure where I heard it but it's been a really good thing to go by...

If they offer you 1 MB of space then expect 5 MB of bandwidth (silly but an example)

100 MB disk = 500 MB bandwidth <-- like that

And that's just a generic response and way to look at things. If it varies too much in one direction then chances are there's something afoot and you might want to look a bit deeper.

I'd say, since hearing the rule, I'd wager it's okay to go with a "rule of ten" but that's just plain speculation on my part. So 100 MB disk = 1000 MB bandwidth in other words... If they go much beyond that aspect ratio then I'd start digging and really hold them at arm's length without some further evidence to support putting your business, reputation, and money online with them.

Just my two cents...

Which doesn't make much sense either... if that is a monthly allocation, then 3.5 TB ought to be divided by 30, not 365. After all, are you paying monthly for it? :)

Right, looks like a slip there.... :) - Should be about 116 MB/day.

Anyway, the TOS part still is very interesting reading.
And I'm sure one can find more posts on ****** on this forum, if interested....

BTW, the short answer to the OP is: NO!! -- IMHO.

No, Techark is right. These 3,5 TB are annual traffic. Hence 9,8 GB a day or 298,7 GB a month.
