View Full Version : Looking for an example of a niche based host
Jeff Smith 03-10-2006, 08:45 PM Hello all,
I keep hearing about how important it is to differenciate yourself from the crowd by targeting a niche or a 'crenau' as the french would put it. But I have only seen one host that had dedicated their site to a particular niche and that one was for one of the religions out there.
I'd like to see one or two more if possible, so if you know of a host that caters to a specific group of people/niche please post the link so I can learn a little more about the topic.
Big thanks,
Premier 03-11-2006, 02:01 AM It doesn't necessarily have to mean targeting the website to a particular market. In many cases it's just the advertising that is targeted.
Actually a niche is very important if you want to have a much easier time in a crowded market.
Here are several examples:
Joomla hosting Niche - http://www.joomla-hosting.com/
ruby on rails hosting - http://www.railsplayground.com/
for programmers esp to some degree- http://textdrive.com/
Revo.In 03-11-2006, 04:25 AM Blogger.com <-- Blog Hosting
InvisionFree.com <-- IPB Hosting
PodBus.com <-- iPOD Hosting
All the above are hosts that serve a particular niche. :)
Jeff Smith 03-11-2006, 10:16 AM What about a hosting company that doesn't base the niche on what they offer, but who they offer it to. For example (like I have read in the articles about niche marketing) a hosting site that caters to doctors, dentists, or real estate agents.
Or is it a case of preaching without practicing?
etechsupport2 03-11-2006, 10:32 AM If you specialize your service and target that specific community or language, I hope it will give you much leverage.
markjut 03-11-2006, 06:05 PM You have the christian webhosting companies
eming 03-12-2006, 04:42 AM i think mediatemple.com is another example of a host actually selling pretty much standard packages, but somehow managed to get them selv positioned in the "designer/creative" niche.
Aussie Bob 03-12-2006, 05:01 AM www.LivingDot.com is a host, supplying services to the blogging niche.
Although come to think of it, are they more a blog supplier, than a niche based hosting supplier? I think both.
KGIII 03-12-2006, 05:43 AM I guess, sort of, the signature in my post will take you to us and we're specifically aiming to e-commerce hosting which isn't really that much of a niche I don't suppose? But the SEO/Submission is aimed squarely at them and we hope is what will set us apart from the rest.

mrzippy 03-13-2006, 12:44 PM Do a google search for different niches and you'll find many examples.
ie:
"realty website hosting"
"law firm hosting"
etc...

Wow, there must be more video rental places than I thought :)
One thing that's obviously really popular at the moment is instant, tacky websites - myspaces, etc. As bwb said, Joomla hosting is a good example of niche hosting. Make it ridiculously easy for the client.
datapimp 03-15-2006, 12:02 AM differenciate yourself from the crowd by targeting a niche or a 'crenau' as the french would put it.Niche is a French word. How many damn words do the French have for the same thing?
That's a rhetorical question.
I don't believe in niche markets, they are a fantasy! You must appeal to everyone, and plant yourself firmly in the middle of the road. There is no other way to succeed. Everything else is insanity!
taylorwilsdon 03-15-2006, 12:16 AM I'm not going to provide examples becuase I'd like to keep my little market to myself, but I target my hosting at a very, very small but wonderfully web-literate group of kids (15-20) who make these immensly popular Adobe(/macromedia) Flash animations.
: newgrounds.
LoganNZ 03-16-2006, 06:02 AM a simple and well used niche hosting market is porn hosting. There are pros and cons, but if you get the right setup you can make a lot of money out of it.
nowanda 03-16-2006, 06:48 AM Target market by geographical location. Say your the web hosting company of this city and surely you'll attract local customers. Clients like the fact your a phone call away and speak the same language or accent.
