![]() | View Full Version : ssl sharkman 05-11-2002, 12:50 PM What company offer the best deals on SSL certifcate? bizwala 05-11-2002, 01:02 PM We use Geotrust. They have a great reaserller plan if you have clients that need SSL certs. Good luck. Jonathan Remund LinuXpert 05-11-2002, 01:10 PM - Lowest price: instantssl.com - $49 - works with 85% of all browsers - Reasonable price: ebizid.com - $79/QuickSSL - works with 95% browsers However, I think you should use Thawte.com CA - $125 - works with almost browsers. Although it is a bit pricey but you will get what you pay for. pearhost 05-11-2002, 01:13 PM Thawte.com very popular! bizwala 05-11-2002, 01:38 PM I really loved Thwate until they were bought out by Verisign. Any ways the other suggested SSL Cert companies I haven't heard about, but I would recommend looking and asking questions to all them. Jonathan Remund (SH)Saeed 05-11-2002, 02:00 PM We got our Geotrust/Equifax Business SSL from www.ssl4less.com for only $89. I think Geotrust is selling the same certificate for around $179. LinuXpert 05-11-2002, 02:35 PM Yes, there are some GeoTrust resellers offer SSL Cert at cheaper prices than Geotrust does. Ebizid and ssl4less for example. Jedito 05-11-2002, 02:56 PM I don't know what's the problem with thawte lately, but they are taking too much time to release a certificate, the last time took us near 2 weeks to get a new certificate, they already has all my information, so, it wasent needed send any paper. sharkman 05-11-2002, 03:03 PM so there is no dissatavantage going with resellers, right? (SH)Saeed 05-11-2002, 03:44 PM Originally posted by sharkman so there is no dissatavantage going with resellers, right? Not that I know of. You pay the reseller, then you have to email Geotrust and they (Geotrust) will email you back your certificate. thinkcomp 05-11-2002, 06:27 PM (SH)Saeed, As a GeoTrust reseller, I can tell you that there isn't any disadvantage to buying your certificate through one of us. The reseller program is essentially designed to increase sales for GeoTrust, but the product is exactly the same. The only aspect of the process that resellers even have the permission to modify is pricing. Going through a reseller also allows you, the customer, to pick the company that you think will offer the best support. Maximiliam 05-11-2002, 07:25 PM We use Thawte, $125 bucks. We almost got Verisign certificates, because of the branding, but they charged a little too much compared to the rest. Yikes2000 05-22-2002, 04:24 PM Hi everyone, Thawte SSL certificate doesn't take that long. We received ours in two business days. Just sign up at their site and fax everything they asked for. (And I mean EVERYTHING.) It takes them one day to process your fax, and another day to verify. In our case, they called us on the phone. After the phone call, our certificate was ready in about 40 minutes. Somehow I still trust Thawte over these new CA's. Maybe in a couple of years when IE8 comes out, everyone's compatibility will be 99%. Until then, I will continue to use Thawte. Regards, Yikes finnley001 05-23-2002, 06:46 AM Thawte are very good, and they are a lot cheaper than verisign! Finn jgriff64 05-23-2002, 06:51 AM You can get entrust/tucows web certs though opensrs. $100 reseller price. GordonH 05-23-2002, 01:46 PM Rackshack has the geotrust certs for $49 . Geotrust charge us $85  and they charge the public $119. I bought a block of Comodo certs which works out at $42 for one year (less for 2 year certs) Compatibility seems OK but you need to install a chain certificate. I like Geotrust but their pricing has got a bit too high. It was $79 when I started. Good news for the real cheapskates is that www.freessl.com is on its way back with free certificates (only work in IE) Gordon PlanetDigita 06-01-2002, 10:46 AM I read a Rackshack ad in a magazine and could not believe the price. After looking at the fine print it shows that the price is $49 per month. Outrageous. Tracy Phillips thewitt 06-01-2002, 10:52 AM Where do you see RackShack selling QuickSSL certs for $49 a month? They clearly state RackShack is pleased to announce GeoTrust QuickSSL Certificates for only $49.00 + Tax. This Certificate is valid for 1 year. which gives us grief as QuickSSL resellers - since this is well below the best price we can get wholesale with quantity discounts! They are either selling these as a loss leader, hoping to make it up on hosting account sales, or have worked out some other deal with GeoTrust. I have not been able to get a straight answer out of GeoTrust yet. We've just begun selling the InstantSSL certs for $49, but installation of these is not as straightforward as the QuickSSL cert, and they don't yet have the same level of public appeal. -t Angel78 06-01-2002, 10:53 AM per month? errr not so sure abouth that PlanetDigita 06-01-2002, 11:00 AM Yes I am sure about that. It was in hostingtech magazine. I am pretty sure it was not for a QuickSSL but for a True BusinessID. I don't surf their site so I don't know what is there. Tracy Phillips AhmedF 06-07-2002, 07:27 AM Doh. Meant to post new :( AaronC 06-07-2002, 09:05 AM Originally posted by PlanetDigita It was in hostingtech magazine. Tracy Phillips If this is in reference to Rackshack, it is the QuickSSL certificates that are being sold for $49/year + Tax AaronC |
