Some reseller Hosting companies in UK:
www.fasthosts.co.uk
www.donhost.co.uk
www.cwcs.co.uk
www.interhost.co.uk
But I don't recommend the companies in UK.

I imagined using a US host for our UK company might be frought with difficulties? (Probably being a bit naive to think this way?).
We would like to have as little as possible to do in terms of the hosting side of things so don't mind paying for an appropriate level of service. Who would you go with in the US?

There are some god UK hosts I've personally used - but my favourite for a long time has been Clook: www.clook.net
Get some receommendations from personal experiences - rather than simple lists of hosts.

If you can live without Phone support, Clook is the solution.
Personal experience tickets replied in 5 minutes. Extremly helpful and very good service. I even sometime ask programming related query they and get answer fast :)

I have never hosted in the UK but the fact that I am in the UK is irrelevant to my business. The fact that hosting and bandwidth is cheaper in the US is more important, because this is not a big business and we can't afford to pay too much, and we host software on our server so there are a lot of downloads.
If you don't have a .co.uk domain and you want your site to come up when people search for sites in the UK then you would be better off hosting in the UK, because your IP address will be the only clue to the search engines where you are located.
If you have a .co.uk this might override the location of the server but I'm not sure.
If you expect to phone support techs a lot then it really should make no difference. Transatlantic calls are cheap these days and a decent host should have the phones manned 24/7.

Having a .co.uk is no guarantee of a UK search listing on Google.

Yeah, I agree with tech-pro, if you're a small company you would be better off using the cheaper space and bandwidth from the US to get started off and then once you're hosting bigger sites which need to load fast then move over to the UK.
Sure phone support costs more if you use a US firm, but some hosts have skype or even better live support options, so for a start up small business I'd always say use the US companies.
Just my 2p

Yes having IP in UK is only way to get yourself in UK search results.
One of my project got a great boom after tranferring to UK server, It was targeted at users from UK.
I remember I had an account with another UK firm with servers in Germany, It wasnt helping at all.
So you have to pay extra bucks to be on top.

I know many who have used Clook.net and are happy. Friendly service along with nice offerings. They also offer VPS's and they I have heard are solid. I personally never used them but have referred some there for UK Hosting.

many good hosts there, but you should have your requirements to narrow the list
