I am on a Windows 2000 Server. I am getting packet loss to the server. I setup Ping Plotter to get a trend. My average is 19% loss with it near 24% between 1 and 5 Eastern Time (US).

All the hops to get to my server have 0% loss (a couple errors, that's normal over 72 hours).

Here is what I am trying now.
1. Force the NIC to 100 Full-Duplex (according to datacenter)
Disabling auto-detect.
2. Verifying the cable is good

What else can I do? Also, I am going to use NT's Performance Monitor to try to get some data. Is there something else better? Is there a preferred way to configur PerfMon?

Thanks for any help.

As far as software is concerned, we use Visual Route and it works great. As soon as packet loss or latency is experianced, we get on the phone with our Tier 1 network providers.

http://www.visualroute.com (I believe)

long time lurker here. finally found something I can answer with some knowledge :)

Troubleshooting packet loss is very difficult. Coming from a telecom backround, the first and prolly easiest thing to do would be to swap the card and cable.

After that run the test again. If it still gets packet loss settle down for a long troubleshooting process...

It can be anything from a loose cable to a bad pin in the MB causing the errors.
