out of curiosity, does any one know how much those major companies such as beverages, record labels, cosmetic, pay to the big boys sites to run their ad banners?

That depends on a lot of factors:

- Where exactly is the ad placed (the top of a homepage would be much more expensive than the footer of some sub-page)
- What's the size of the ad
- How many banner impressions
