Are there any american banks which will open checkings accounts for canadian business?
Ideally, something similar to the old bizrate we had in Canada (no monthly fees, and almost everything electronic).

Most banks will if you are willing to come to the United States. They do not need a SSN unless you are opening an interest bearing checking account. A lot of customers have had success with Bank of America - coming into the bank helps to satisfy the YKYC (you know your customer) regulation

Thanks :-)
Unfortunatetly, I probably won't be able to make it to the states for the next six months or so, but I'll give that a shot if I can't find another way.

only limited number of banks provide opening of the accounts for non US companies, the best way for you is to check if your Canadian bank is having branch in US and then ask them to help you open account in US at that branch, I recommend to talk with HSBC

As mentioned on several posts, Valis International can now open a bank account for a non-US citizen but at a price of US$600! You do need the US company (preferably Delaware single LLC to avoid tax filing), US Business address and EIN. Valis and others can do these for you, but the price is likely to be around US$675 plus deposits for postage & payment fees. Having had problems with Paysat & 2CO I am in the process of doing this with Valis, so will let you know how it goes in a couple of weeks. If you are in a hurry contact Tracey Gendron of Valis at tgendron@valissavings.com.

I am only a client of Valis - no agency, reseller, employee or personal affiliations. I am British living in Manila with my own business and after much research, am just passing on my personal experiences and findings as well as my intentions. By the way I am also an HSBC client and as far as I know they, like all Intenational banks, will open a US$ account for anyone, but only at a branch within the country of residence. This is not the same as having a US$ account at a bank branch in the US, which is required to get a merchant account for unfortunates like myself who live in the third world.

Royal Bank in Canada allows you to open a bank account in the U.S. Check them out at one of your nearest locations. They do charge $3/monthly banking fee though. You can transfer funds online between your Canadian and u.s account.

and I am not talking about a U.S. funds account, I am talking about a u.s. bank account located physically in the u.s.

This is correct, but it is only a personal account.

are you talking about RBC USD business account in Canada or RBC Centura USD Bussiness account in United States? My banker told me I could not do this because I don't have my business registered in USA.

Do you remember who you called? I'd like to open one as well. I am using Paypal right now, I don't want paypal converts my USD to CAD and transfer to my CAD account. I want to keep USD in my account, but currently there is no way to make it work........

thanks
