I'd go with authorize.net and maybe cdgcommerce. For the most part pretty good although they can get rather anal when processing large transactions ~50k+ which becomes a major pain but if your only doing small transactions it should be perfect.

Authorize.net. Very happy with them.

We have processed tens of thousands of dollars through Paypal per month for years and have never had anything more than a couple of minor issues with them. We've gone through about 1/2 dozen merchant accounts and have had nothing but problems...although cdgcommerce.com had the fewest issues.

With Paypal, we've never had problems with fraud and their rates are pretty cheap considering. With Paypal Pro, its just like having a merchant account.

I would choose an electronic payment gateway and a merchant account. Paypal's business plan changed but I still consider them a P2P where their business was stable. Even though them getting the Verisign's Payflow services - I would rather use LinkPoint or Verisign's Payflow with a merchant account.
