with most ded. servers

say the machine "froze" up, or halted, or uh, you just can't login, for whatever reason.

To reboot the server, in most cases would you need the root password to reboot it?

i always thought you could just reboot it without the root pass

Isn't this how it is with all servers

can't you just reboot it without the root pass

With the root password, some tech will do a soft reboot.

Hard reboot never requires password. In this case, maybe they need the password to verify your identity.

Soft reboot don't require for login into system, you can just connect to local console and "Ctr+Alt+del" and it will reboot it soft

Well, I guess than the only use of password is as a verification. Or maybe if the server is managed but not accessible locally, and the client request a reboot.
