Well thanks to MC Host's so called "service" and "99% uptime" we have lost £330 tonight = $481. Their Hawaii server has been down so much over this week its become a farce. Our eBay auction for a Game Cube site which ended tonight at 21:30BST ended at a price of £330 but now the winning bidder understandably has pulled out due to the highly unreliable service offered by MC Host. We only joined them as we had heard such good things about them but over the last week our view has completley changed.

We await what MC Host do over our lost income.....nothing we guess but we will see.

Have you seen my reply to your support ticket?

Someone is running a hidden IRC server on the machine and is attracting DOS attacks. We're currently scanning the entire machine and will close down the account as soon as we find it.

Isn't there a thing in WHM to find running IRC servers?

Marc,

We had a similar problem in which an account (through no fault of the account owner) was attracting DoS attacks. Careful examination of the logs showed the IP from which they originated, and we were able to block the IP at router level.

It may be easier for you to just block the IP(s) at the router while you find the accounts?

Good luck,

Matt

Hello all,

We got the support ticket 20 mins after the thread was posted but I thank you Marc for replying to both this thread and the ticket - as usual the support is prompt.

I understand that downtime is inevitable and also appreciate that 99% uptime guarantee may not be the case but 4 times in 2 days is a bit much.

Also as many of you who use eBay will know when your selling something of high interest the last 10 minutes are really busy and usually attract loads of bids. This was due to be the case with our auction as we had 50 Questions, 3 definite end bidders and 2300 hits on the auction page. When the bidders could not reach the site it did not fill them with confidence and they decided against bidding......I hope you can all appreciate why we were infuriated.

Anyway all is fine now....for the time being anyway and lets hope we can continue to enjoy MC Host the way we used to when we first signed up.

Oh one last thing before I go...On MC Host they offer cPanel is there a bit in the T&C's to state that this will be terminated it does not bother me or my clients as VCP looks good but it may get MC Host into a bit of trouble if they are advertising a product with the full intent to stop that particular service soon, Or maybe they don’t need to its just something I would be interested to know before stating cPanel to my future clients.

You will have the option to choose between CPanel or VirtualCP for your clients ;)

Thats great.

I thought I read on the MC Host forums that cPanel was going to be discontinued thats why I was concerned that if I offer it I will get people coming to me saying that they want their money back because its no longer available.

Would changing from CPanel to VirtualCP be the best idea? I am not sure how much tests have been done to VirtualCP, but I do know for sure that even HostGUI is not yet released yet (months late). Not to mention that changin CP for thousands of accounts may not be the smoothest/easiest thing to do ... So, I do really worry for you Marc ... Hope things go well!

cheers,

Are they changing CPs or just putting those CPs on new servers?

I think they are going to use their own control panel on all servers. Although I don't know why kiwi wants to keep WHM/CPanel and continue to pay the monthly licence fees if they have their own server management software.

I guess because they are not ready yet? Using a control panel that is not fully tested (security and stability especially) is a big NO-NO .... Not to mention that you will probably have problems moving customers from CPanel to VirtualCP ... Anyway, take a look at HostGUI, they have been delaying the release for months now, and I think that's for a reason.

There will be (there already is and it has been tested) a CPanel data to VirtualCP data converter, so you can virtually move 1000 CPanel accounts into VirtualCP within a few minutes.

This thread is going way off topic, suggest it be closed or another thread be opened.

Agreed, but that's the dynamic and evolving state of conversations. :)

Now what was the original thread about?? ;)
