View Full Version : Datacities - 4 Hour Review

This review is based on the last 4 hours I have been with Datacities.

The signup process is simple up the point where they do the checks for fraud. During the signup process I needed to enter my phone number, which I did, but I noticed that the drop down box for the UK gave a totally incorrect country code. I didn’t think anything of this, but the automated system left me waiting 10 minutes before a web page gave a response of “unable to validate”.

I sent an email to support, about this, and about 10 minutes later I received a receipt, followed by another 2, all 3 around 1 minute apart. I wonder if I have been billed 3 times.

The reason I have signed up with Data Cities is because the reseller hosting includes a free lPanel licence. So I am familiar with the welcome email it sends.

First Problem:
No IP addresses given in the welcome email to register my names servers too.

Second Problem:
“lPanel licence has been deactivated, please login to your members area”.

I had a look in the WHM to see if I could find any IP details, nothing. I logged into my members area with regards to lPanel, what next?!

Additionally, the server is very slow, didn’t expect that for a Xeon with 2GB RAM.

I have sent a support ticket to support, but 4 hour in, still no response.

At least there is a 30-day money back guarantee.

Things can only get better.

Craig

A lot of people think the more powerful the server the faster the hosting will be. That is a 100% incorrect assumption. It all depends on how the hosting company loads the server.

Now you just need to hope that they will honor their money back guarantee :)

Never thought of it like that. This would explain why my dedicated Celeron server is speedy, not much load on it.

Datacities is owned by Lpanel. Lately, there's been a huge lack of support in the Lpanel division (and I assume it's the same employees for both companies).

This would explain why staff and servers are subpar. Even Lpanel's licensing server has been having frequent hiccups (without a known backup server online).

Don’t really like the sound of that, and after doing a search on datacities here at WHT, doesn’t seem good (I normally do a search before buying anything, but I previously did a search on the Lpanel software, and all seemed good, must have took a turn for the worst).

I have sent a request for account termination and refund; hopefully they will respond and honour the guarantee.

Good idea about getting you money back. Don't blame you one bit. Have you looked into other Billing solutions such as ClientExec or Auto Pilot?

The software itself is great. Most of us using Lpanel don't have any problems except for the small timeouts at the licensing server.

Other then that, there's some really helpful users on their forums (no staff though...they completely disappeared).

I have used client exec before, and think it is fine for my needs. After clicking the link in SJRHosting.com signature, and doing a little search here on WHT, I have just signed up to SJR and will hopefully get Client Exec as part of the package.

With regards to the Lpanel software, I have used a couple of trials to see what I can do with it, and when it works it is great, but when things go wrong like that have, you need support, which isn’t there.

*Oh, welcome email just arrived from SJR!

Oh, I'm not knocking the LPanel software itself. I've used it before and it seemed pretty solid. However, in the hosting industry, no matter what type of hosting product you get.. In my opinion, the companies number 1 agenda should be support.

Got a reply from them today, asking why i would like to cancel.

So I have told them that the support is not at it's best.

Hopefully a refund will head my way pretty soon.

Just got home to find an email stating my refund has been processed, and should see it back on my card in the next few days.
