Jessicam 05-09-2002, 03:36 AM I think it can be done but it's up to the web host. I think most don't support this though. If you are hunting for a web host that supports this, email them, and see if they accomodate your needs. :) It's worth a try! :) My advice is, look for a host with a GREAT customer support. They will be the ones that may go the extra mile to please their customers. What you are asking for is really easy to do. Your host needs to create a DNS "A Record" for the subdomain, then they need to add a host header for that name in their webservers config file. If your host does not know how to do this, then you are in trouble. :) Hexed[man] 05-09-2002, 02:57 PM why have the www. in front of a subdomain tho? i'm just wondering.. cause it would make the domain longer... most of my clients wouldnt use the www. in front of their subdomain cause of length issues... unless the domain is is maybe 2 or 3 characters, the www in front of the sub wouldnt really matter like in www.yourname.abc.com but if it was www.yourname.yourhostsname.com would look nasty, dont u agree? JayC 05-09-2002, 03:53 PM Originally posted by Hexed[man] why have the www. in front of a subdomain tho? I think some people would like to have it just because some users might be in the habit of always putting "www." in front of a url. Really these days almost the only reason it's used at all even in the "www.example.com" form is tradition and force of habit. sweethorizons 05-09-2002, 04:13 PM Yes, its alot of user's habiets because alot of people got that go to my free hosting site have a habit of putting www.whatever.mydomain.com and it creates a error for them. You can find this is your site access log. I think its just that don't know they just need wht.com or sometimes w/ aol you just need to type aol in IE.
