FiberOptic 05-09-2002, 07:40 PM A second disk can only be added to a RaQ4r... which standard comes with 2 disks... Since RaQ4r uses RAID1 it is NOT possible to use the second disk to expand the HD capacity of your RaQ4r... Just, a mirror of your first disk... It will help you to sleep tight during the nights...!!!!! :-) cbtrussell 05-09-2002, 09:58 PM Uh, no. He's already got the 2nd drive in his RaQ4. He wants to know how to move a site from drive 1 to drive 2, or vice versa. FWIW, you can add a drive to a RaQ3, 3i,4,4i - in a master/slave setup. (It's much easier on a 3i/4i) A RaQ4r comes with two drives in a RAID1 configuration. Brandon BooBoo 05-10-2002, 12:11 PM I tried adding a second drive and failed miserably. I have a RaQ3i with RaQ4i software. I changed the jumper settings and I was never able to get the RaQ to recognize the second drive. FiberOptic 05-11-2002, 08:46 PM That's exactly what I meant... cbtrussell 05-11-2002, 11:12 PM That's exactly what I meant... Fiber, Are you suggesting you can't add a second drive to any RaQ other than a RaQ4r, which comes with the second drive? addady 05-12-2002, 01:10 AM Well I have raq4 (not raq4r) with 2nd disk !!! cbtrussell 05-12-2002, 01:28 AM Yeah, no kidding. I acknowledged that above in my first post. I could be wrong, but Fiber seems to be insisting that that you can't have a second drive in anything but a RaQ4r. That obviously is not correct, as your own experience (as well as mine) attests. Brandon FiberOptic 05-12-2002, 10:49 AM I really tought it wasn't possible to add a second HD in a RaQ other than the RaQ4r... In fact, I've read a lot of threats handling that subject which were all suggesting that adding a second HD to such a system is just like hell. Even master/slave settings that won't be accepted, OS recovery which fails all the times,... Anyway, if you have it working, that's even better ... Perhaps ony a few versions of the RaQ4 won't have problems adding a second disk. Another question: The RAID1 of the RaQ4r is a "software RAID" So, if you restore the RaQ4r OS to a RaQ4 having 2 HD's, will it also work as a RAID1 real RaQ4r? Greetz; FiberOptic... cbtrussell 05-12-2002, 11:44 AM No, not exactly. You can add a second HD through the GUI with a 3i or 4i. You can install a second identical HD to the second IDE in a 4i and run the 4r restore CD, this will result in a functional 4r. Good luck! Brandon |
