View Full Version : Strange behaviour from Go Daddy (domain settings)

I renewed one of my domains on Go Daddy yesterday. I have auto renew on, but I wanted to take advantage of their current renewal price, so I did it manually. I just found out that the settings of that particular domain was changed: nameservers were changed to Go Daddy's, and it was set to forward to my other domain.

Those of you who've been with Go Daddy for a while will know this: you have to jump through a few hoops to setup nameservers and forwardings and the like. This is not something I could have accidentally clicked on.

I am actually not posting this as a complaint. I am still working things out with their support, i.e., why did it happen, and is it going to happen again, etc. -- I'll keep you guys posted. But I am curious: did anyone on WHT go through incidents like this with Go Daddy? Am I alone?

I'd hazard a guess that if the nameservers were changed to Godaddy's and the domain to set to forward to one of your other domains, that you actually did that and promptly forgot about it, or 2 the changes you though you made, you didn't save, and consequently you are seeing the old settings for this domain.

It's a possibility, and I really hope that is the case. The thing is: I have had both domains for some time now; and since I use them fairly regularly, for different purposes, there really is no good reason to change the settings. At least not to setup forwarding when I need the content of the site to show. :)

Thanks for the input though.

My webmaster is getting the royal runaround in trying to transfer (actually I think it's just to point) my domain to Net Solutions. I don't know exactly what the problem is except that it is with GoDaddy's inability to respond accurately and in a timely manner. All my webmaster wants to do is publish my web site through NetSol. He has spent 5 hours and almost a week on the phone and the computer trying to do something that ought to be instantaneous. I know we're spoiled in today's microwave cooking and instantaneous communication age, but this seems ridiculous. It's looking more and more like a personality conflict between GoDaddy and NetSol. One seems to have round pegs, the other square holes; the data Net Sol needs doesn't jibe with what GoDaddy wants, or vice versa. I wonder if you guys have any idea what I ought to do. The problem is causing me big money, especially in lost time on and business from the web.
Frankly yours,

Go Daddy replied, telling me that my account was probably compromised. And taught me how to change my password. Hmpf, I kind of expected a reply like that, but... :smash:

Blah, time to look again (?).

Frank,

I assume what you need to do is point your GoDaddy registered domain at NetSol hosting? Correct?

Have NetSol given you the ip addresses of their hosting servers? (something like ns1.netsol24.net etc... these are just fake examples, not real examples).

If you are armed with that info, it's easy. Login to Godaddy, Go to >My Account>Manage Domains, check the tick-box against the domain you want to forward, select >Set Nameservers, check the radiobutton for Custom Name Servers, and input the nameservers (ns1.netsol24.net etc) and save changes.

These changes will take anything from 1-72hrs to propogate throught the internet. After they've propogated you'll be pointing at NetSol's hosting servers. If you still have problems, it'll be at the NetSol end of your hosting package.
