I have a domain that was registered with my webhost and i wanted to transfer it to registermyname.net (Cheaper domain name register). They said it was a 5-7 day process and it may not go through since the domain expires March 1 2006. Now i went through the process yesterday and got everything transfered. My domain name was transfered to "registermyname.net" within 5min. It prograited within 15 hours and now it shows it on whois.sc as my new nameservers and my new register. Only problem is the ip location is showing as my old host which is dreamhost and im guessing it will change on the next whois server refresh update.
Now why does it take 5-7 to complete if it completed within a couple hours? The new expire date is March 1, 2007 so did it transfer? I was cutting it close trying to move my domain name within 4 days of it expiring, but seems it went through.

Are you still using old host nameservers? If so that explains the ip part because even though you had transferred your domain, you are still using DreamHost webhosting.

Actually, pinging my domain name is not the DH ip.. its the current host im @ now. I even uploaded something to the new host and it shows. I dont have dreamhost hosting anymore they canceled all the plans. They just told me itll take 5-7 days to transfer to godaddy or namecheap, etc... but it was done in less than 24 hours. Some whois site show my domain expiring on the 1 of 2006 and some are showing the 1 of 2007. So im guessing it has something to do with the whois servers updating there information.

Yes, a lot of these whois services do not show updates instantly.
Try dnsreport.com
I assume you have updated your dns at the new registrar :) After that it can take 24-72hrs to propogate to all the dns servers on the internet. Just be patient.

Some losing registrars (e.g. eNom) does not let you to even acknowledge the transfer but makes you wait out the whole 5 - 7 days; some others (e.g. Tucows/OpenSRS) on the other hand just do it almost instantly.
