I'm thinking of moving from Win2K to Linux (mainly cos of costs for Win2K + SQL Server + Mail etc etc)

I have seen www.uk2.net selling RAQ4 at a very very attractive price.

1. Whats their uptime like?
2. Will I need their phone support ? It costs a bit extra..
3. What are the RAQ4's like ? I'm a Windoze guru but Linux is a new one for me .

Thanks

Price looks good but what's support like? No email support and support site link page says 'fill in the form and we'll get back to you as soon as we can' - doesn't inspire me with confidence! Maybe some users can comment.

Also note http://www.pronicsolutions.com

Last time i checked UK2.net, you had to pay either 1 or 3 years in advance, not weekly. God help us if they went bust.

UK2.net...
their prices don't look realistic...
I wouldn't trust any company who sell's at those prices ...

The contact form on http://help.uk2.net/contact is primarily for domain clients. Raq clients get direct email support (quicker and broader-ranged if you pay for email support), and there's a whole bunch of knowledgeable people on raq@yahoogroups.com or the powerraq.com forum on http://forums.uk2.net/ that can help you out as well.

cobalt-serve, welcome to the forums, but please read and regard the rules on advertising your services in normal forums (ie: it's not allowed). a PM to the person or a post in the advertising forums would be the correct course of action in this case.

look at me starting to sound like a mod. sorry chicken, just trying to help.

The question was directed towards skington, who incase you dont know is the senior developer of UK2.net who has just joined WHT. :D

Just wondering how many individual rack units it takes to run an operation as big as theirs.

I looked at UK2 and decided against them. Their cost for the basic Raq4 is 52 UKP plus VAT per month if you pay for 3 years upfront - thats 1872 UKP plus 17.5 percent VAT. If you pay one year up front its 70 UKP plus VAT a month but you have to cough up 832 UKP plus VAT - nearly a grand. They are around the cheapest in UK except maybe dedicated-servers who charge 75 UKP plus VAT per month but only on a monthly basis. All are subject to setup fees.

The best deal I can find for a RAQ 4 id www.serverbeach.com which has a raq4 128Mg 20Gb with 400 gig bandwidth for 79 USD. The UK firms only offer 5 gigs bandwith with extra gigs at around 20 UKP plus VAT phew.

1 UKP is about 1 us dollar 60 cents.

So serverbeach's deal at 79 USD a month no setup with only a month up front and NO VAT since we don't live there really rocks.

So the total cost per month is 50 UKP full stop. Not a lot to risk to learn if its OK for you. They have bigger servers too and I have found them very helpful and prompt. Next in line would be Rackshack with 99USD setup and 99USD monthly.

I would love a deal on a Raq or similar in the UK but they are all overpriced, as far as I have seen anyway - and good customer service in the UK is like rocking horse sh*t - unlikely and terribly rare. Bit like bandwith.

I've been looking into this as well, as I'm with dedicated-servers.co.uk base pack (when it was £99 a month and I paid a year in advance), and now I've just blown my monthly transfer amount by 5gb putting me well over the 5gb a month I'm allowed, and at £20 a gb it's a LOT. I tried to talk to them via there chat but couldn't really get any help apart from selling me an upgrade to the next level. UK2 looks good as it's reasonable xfer and good spec machine (I really want to move to 256mb min) but I don't think I've heard a good comment to date about them. UK stuff is so damn expensive!! I really am thinking of moving it out of the country :(

Mat, go look at www.rackshack.net and click on the Bargain Basement. They have some Raq4is there at 1 dollar setup and 99 dollars a month - 20 Gig - 256Meg- 400 GB a month. Better be quick though, its a sale.

This doesn't look bad, although on your website the cheapest is 47 pounds (+VAT) (yeah I know, I'm replying to a slightly old message, specials come and go!)

That's still a pretty good price, but 5Gb bandwidth is just a bit too tight. Unfortunately the next step up is 20Gb/month with a minimum price tag of 99+VAT (faster server though).

How much would the entry level server be with 10 or 15Gb of bandwidth? Or is that not an option? How is bandwidth overusage measured/charged? Any discounts for 12 month prepayment?

Just curious at this stage... site could do with just a little more detail. :-)

If support is important to you...don't go to uk2.net.
I am there and there is little if no support...check out their forum for an idea of what its like.

Hi.

I'd look at www.uk2raq.com I don't know if it's been mentioned but it's a support site run by UK2's RaQ3 community.

I can't comment on the support you get etc but I believe there are some quite happy people using it.

With regards to support, in my experience most hosting companies are great untill something goes wrong. It's then that you find out why your paying so much/little for you hosting.

Not advertising though, www.cian.net are doing a RaQ3 for around £400 a year (I think). Their service has been good for me and though I've had a couple of problems they do sort them out quick. I noticed the offer on eBay for a while but it's worth dropping them a line.

You might consider buying your own, RaQ3's can be bought for arround £350 from eBay and 1u hosting is from £25 pounds a month now.

Hope this helps, Rob.
