Am am a reseller for Lalaweb (http://www.lalaweb.com/) and am switching hosting companies. I am in the process of being setup with the new host and I have a few clients hosted by Lalaweb. I registered one of the domain names through Lalaweb, which go through OpenSRS for their domains.

I am about ready to have the DNS transferred, but can I just go into the domain and have this done, or will Lalaweb have to do it? The domain contact names are myself and my client.

Also, I can't reach Lalaweb. They will not reply to email and when you call you get a message that their mailbox is full and to hangup. Grrr!!!

Thanks for any help that you could give.

Jonathan

Jonathan,

As long as your domain was registered in your name you can log into any OpenSRS management site to change your nameservers. I would try "manage.opensrs.net", as long as you know your user ID and password you should be all set.

Good luck.

I don't have a user ID or password, because I just told Lalaweb verbal that I wanted them to register the domain name (they did not have a control panel). They had it taken care of.

I have been told that they have the user ID and password and that I need to contact them, but I can't contact them!

Go here http://resellers.tucows.com/enduser/ and read item #4. You first want to check the whois information about your domain to be certain they actually registered it to you. If so, and the contact information isn't good enough you can contact support at opensrs.org directly who may be able to help.

Thank you Scott. I will try that.

Another option is to transfer your domain to another OpenSRS reseller. Transfers between OpenSRS resellers happen very quickly, and that way you would get a new user name and password. The down side is that you'll have to pay for a year of registration (at whatever rate the new OpenSRS reseller has set), but if you were planning on keeping your domain name you'll have to renew it anyway and transfering to another OpenSRS registrar will give you an additional year of registration.

Hello Chris,

Exactly, that's what I ended up doing... Well, haven't done it yet, but that's what OpenSRS suggested. I found another OpenSRS reseller that I will be using.

Thanks for the help!

Hi synthetic, who'd you end up choosing as a replacement for Lalaweb? After browsing the boards here I'm strongly considering MCHost since DZones' pricing is a bit steep.

Rainy from OTWA

Hi Rainy... Are you RainyBear from OTWA???

I still haven't done it, but I'll be transferring the domain to KCnet. They are my local ISP and have been with them for years. Their domain registration is high ($30/yr), but I know I will be with them for quite some time and will not have any hassles transferring domains if necessary from now on.

For hosting I went with SplashHost.

I had this prob also but it wasn't simple the host had there own controll pannel which works through the openSRS so this control pannel had a seperate password/username!.

E3000-

When I called OpenSRS / Tucows they told me that any OpenSRS reseller can just create a new username and password when they transfer it, and there is no need to know the username and password on the current host.

Yep, RainyBear, that's me -- I use that name just in OAI forums. Gotta have some variety elsewhere!

I have all my domains with Dotster and just signed up for their Instant Reseller program. I was considering SplashHost for hosting, too, but think I'll go with MCHost because of their active forums and just a general vibe I get, though that extra $5/month does add up. Sometimes I wish I could just jump into things without analyzing and analyzing and analyzing again... but in the long run I know it's best to research fully and make the best choice.
