Here is your wining combination:
Register your domain with TotalNIC.net and host your site with Aletiahosting - you be the winner guarantee.

I will make this post as short as I can.
I signed up with them last June when they had WHT Special, and my sites are on STINGRAY.
below is just example of the last 6 moths
my e-mail to support
"
hello,
my site is not working
Service scan (xxx.myweb_site.com)
FTP - 21 Error: Timed out
SMTP - 25 Error: Timed out
HTTP - 80 Error: Timed out
POP3 - 110 Error: Timed out
NNTP - 119 Error: Connection refused "

there respond to my email - 6 hours later
"
Hi,
There is absolutely nothing wrong with any of the services offered by
our servers. I just checked with the server and all the services are up
and running. Please verify this from your end as well. "

I'm just glad I have 2 moths left on my contract, it does not look that I will get any $$ back from Aletiahosting. I had asked many times to transfer to other server or credit my CC - nothing is done about that.
I'm just very lucky I did not sign up for the reseller program and put my customers on there servers.

No more Aletia for me and anyone I know.

Hello
How do you know that those erros were not due to network problems between you and the server?

I run a web hosting company and every day we get odd tickets like that where there is no fault at our end.

The internet is a complex system and an unreachable server could be due to systems hundreds or thousands of miles awau from the web server.

I'll vouch for the downtime.

I too signed up for the Aletia WHT special in June last year... Thankfully I pay
monthly, so Im just about to end my contract with them.

I'm also hosted on the stingray machine, and I can tell you that the server
and support has been TERRIBLE for the last month or two. In the last month
especially, there has been what seems like an hour of "some sort" of machine
errors each day. Furthermore, when they reset the machine the time goes off,
and it takes them 2 hours to change it!! (stats and boards can't cope very
well with continual time changes...)

Cheers
Lucas

I asked Aletia 3 months ago to cancel my account. They are still charging my credit card and I just finished writing to 2Checkout asking for a refund. If that doesn't work out, I'll be filing chargebacks, in the end it will cost them $70 for a $20 charge. How dumb.

Uh, Aletia doesn't use 2Checkout, do they? Last I checked it was Revecom.

I signed up last May and have my account on Stingray as well. It's mainly a developmental account for my personal use. So while I'm sure there has been downtime - I only have had to use support a few times and all were addressed quickly. I had another account I was paying for a friend cancelled with no problems. I'm planning to make a few sites live soon and even though I have to move on to a reseller plan elsewhere to host the many domains I'll have in use - other customer stories worry me anyway. Especially coming from ones that signed up the time I did and are on the same machine. Anyways, my account served me well for my requirements and I'll be moving on regardless of how their support is now.

Jay, I think they switched to 2Checkout awhile back. I'm still on the Revecom systems and I find I can go direct to them (ala Pay Systems) and get any billing and accounts straightened out without bothering Aletia like many of these customers do. Pay Systems appears on my statement, not Aletia; go right to the source.

Also, in general - the customers who come here to WHT to Aletia-bash are usually in a lower type of clientel just from judging how they display themselves. I know a few searches can confirm that quite well.

You assume quite a bit about those complaining and their motives. I wasn't going to say anything - being a customer since last August w/3 accounts - one of which was on the dreaded scorpion server.

I am quietly biding my time until my year is up. I am in the process now of finding a private label reseller to consolidate these three acounts and one or two more.

There are times their service and response has been very fast. Especially when I want CPAN modules installed. That said, ever since the scorpion crash, they've "forgotten" one of my accounts was via their "August Special" of last year. They have been polite, but not prompt on this particular issue - which they don't realize is wearing my patience.

There have also been numerous outtages. NUMEROUS. Too many for me to stay there. Far to many to make me want to stick it out any further than our agreed timeframe. I have also been steering my friends and colleauges clear of Aletia - including some to whom I had recommended Aletia in the past.

This next month, once I have my p.l.reseller, I'll be compelled to spend late nights getting the transition in order. In part because I want to consolidate, but in equal part because of frustration over Aletia's downtime instances.

Oh pahlease, nice generalization there.

I signed up with Aletia Nov 01, all was fine and dandy. January 02 started seeing Aletia go downhill and fast. Most servers too full, crashing, etc. I'm a pretty patient person however by April I had had enough.

I cancelled my account April 23, oh look today is June 23 and I have NO refund yet of money owed to me. I have been "at the top of the billing queue" for about 3 weeks now - that was after not receiving any kind of support from support and having to go to Ron on the boards to see if he could do anything because Laura Brandt certainly has not. So then I finally got promoted to "top of the queue" at the beginning of June and still nothing.

I did get another update to my ticket I think at the beginning of the week asking me for my paypal account so they could refund me, still NOTHING. Why paypal? Because they don't write cheques or issue credits - they want to wire into my account. Well the last wire I received in my account cost me $30 and I'm not paying my bank to get my money back. So they opted for paypal, simple solution if only they would just start the freakin' transfer.

I did learn one good lesson, no one gets my money for hosting annually - even if you are ventures online or gear host or or or...I'm a pay by month type of customer now.

I am not "lower type of clientel" and in fact you could search this forum and find quite a few disgruntled, former Aletia clients that are not how you wish to generalize us. I don't require my hand being held by support, in fact the only time I used them was to get a 2nd domain added to my account.

No matter what a host charges, if they say support and uptime is a part of their "great" service they should offer it. From what I gather at the boards, they are still having problems in these areas.

I'd stay away from them for a while - hopefully one day they will get back on their feet and treat their clients better and take much better care of their servers.
