View Full Version : Anti-Virus for E-mail
Does anyone know of a host offering anti-virus & anti-spam for a reseller account?
I have looked everywhere and no one seems to offer it as a service.

Swelly 02-22-2006, 11:32 AM Have you tried searching through the offers section of this forum? The most commonly used spam protection software in hosting I would say is SpamAssassin. Most cPanel hosts are going to have this as default on their packages. In addition, if you choose a cPanel host most of them offer virus protection, as it is also default in cPanel.
yes, most offer spam assassin - but none off anti-virus for e-mail on the server (we don't use outlook, which prevents alot but something can always get through)
Stopping virus from attaching to e-mail is more preventive than anything.
even did a host request - and recieved alot of automated replies
and my 1st requirment was for antivirus for scanning e-mail
Not a Single 1 mentioned anything on antivirus..
Tried calling one of the Popular named ones here - Doesnt offer, wont even consider it.
Tried one currently using - wont offer it.
KGIII 02-22-2006, 02:25 PM My control panel and the control panel for my clients offers virus scanning with ClamAV and email scanning is one of the options that can be selected.
I got my reseller plan from www.allreseller.com

Wow I thought everyone did. They may not be advertising it but most host use ClamAV, with spam assassin or MailScanner. If you have on your considering just email the sales department and ask them, I would bet they offer it.

Pretty much every host and every control panel offers an anti-virus and anti-spam feature. No real reason to pump cpanel here, as its certainly not something exclusive to that platform

There really is no reason why a cpanel host would not have it. You can install ClamAV through WHM in 5 seconds.

Yes, I am just saying that there is no reason why a cpanel host should not have a virus scan program installed since WHM does it for you.

Exactly. I think the problem here is just they are not advertising. I would ask them about it, you will be suprised of the answers that you get. There is a high demand for virus and spam protection with hosting applications. Thus, cpanel imput these programs into their panel. Some hosts just don't advertise for it.
WHM doesnt automatically install clamAV - it is an add-on and if not installed you cannot use it. I checked with my current host and it isnt installed. so even if it is an available option for cpanel doenst mean that its available for everyone using cpanel.
think of it like Fantastico - its available - but not every host has it installed on every server.

Swelly 02-23-2006, 05:53 PM Yeah its available for $99 per server. cPanel has it, just may not be enabled on your box that may be true, but most hosts provide this as a part of their service. This post is going around in circles, try and find a host that provides this...as their are many. Good luck in your search.

even more to the point - make sure you ask all hosts whether they offer this - many control panels offer this by default, apparently cpanel does not (learn something new every day :) )

Of course there is no reason cpanel "can't" have have virus scanning installed - my only point was there there was no reason to specifically mention cpanel - as EVERY control panel has this (either inherently or as an add-on)

I think the wording you are looking for is most hosts offer some sort of virus scanning included in their plans - however, you should make sure to ask them if its not specifically mentioned on their site so as to be certain. hsphere, plesk, helm all have this by default - cpanel providers are required to purchase an additional add-on for this, so, if you are interested in cpanel providers, make sure you ask them if they have this componant installed....
umbrahosting 02-24-2006, 06:17 PM In most cases, on servers offering cPanel as a service, Spamassassin is an option or already preinstalled for you. You can also conduct a virus scan if that option is available to you. The easiest way to find out if sites are offering e-mail and file virus scanning is to inquire to the hosting companies to find out what is available.

SpamAssasin does a great job, comes with any cPanel reseller account. Not sure about other control panels.
Numero Uno 03-06-2006, 06:33 PM H-Sphere also has good AntiSpam Protection and Antivirus protection as well...
