View Full Version : Anyone gotten a Yahoo!/GeoCities domain transferred out without service outage?

A new customer had originally gotten their .org website through Yahoo!/GeoCities Pro/Melbourne IT. :puke: Trying to get the EPP code from Yahoo gets me a response that I have to cancel "Domain" service, give them a bunch of private information about the previous web designer I don't have, and then contact Melbourne IT.

This sounds like a total nightmare. Will Yahoo/Melbourne IT maintain the reg/DNS info after I've canceled the domain service? Which, by the way, is bundled into their monthly hosting fee, not separate.

I've sent a note back to Yahoo telling them this is totally unacceptable, and to get the EPP code from Melbourne, but I don't expect them to do anything reasonable.

I've also sent mail to Melbourne IT asking them to send the EPP to the admin email, but I don't have high hopes about that, either.

Has anyone successfully worked through this issue, without any disription to the site?

Update: Mail to Melbourne IT got forwarded to Yahoo, telling them to service their reseller account.

Several responses from Yahoo reiterate that they won't release the domain without cancelling first. They confirm that the site will have an outage.

One of the responses dropped the requirement for cancellation. Replying to that with the personal information gets another, "It's impossible" to release without cancellation, response from Yahoo.

Has anyone gotten better service by following through on complaining to ICANN. Or is there some other method?

Will a registrar that I want to transfer to go to bat for me with MelbourneIT?

Any other ideas?
