Hello,

I'm wondering if there are any good/free linux based control panels. I just need something quick and easy that will let me add domains and email accounts to the server. I'm not reselling and just really need something to make my life a little easier with a gui front end.

And tips and advice would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Dico

I just spent the day fighting to install ISPconfig and can definitely not recommend it. The online demo is great and the features are good, but the install is unbelievable.

Setup takes about 30 minutes to install all its little bits, then goes into a configuration mode. If you enter ONE wrong thing while configuring, it says "That's it! This installation is stopping!" and craps out.

You can't restart a failed installation, you have to delete everything and start from the beginning again.

TBH All free panels are very VERY limited. Deffo not to give clients, only really use if your just hosting your site.

That's not always the case.

Webmin for example is very flexible.
We and many others use it for hosting on the daily basis

Undoubtedly, as a free control panel I would choose webmin with the virtualmin module. : www.webmin.com/index8.html (http://www.webmin.com/index8.html)

I will definitely recommend ISPConfig. if you follow the manual, I will think it is pretty straight. It is true when you make a mistake in entering the MySQL root password or the url to access ISPConfig, you may have to start again, but honestly it is a good product. I am definitely not experienced in Linux but I have installed it for more than 7 times now and am enjoying its use. The forum is also as good as what you get on this forum. Falko and the other guy - can't remember his name niow are also at hand to help.

So i recommend ISPConfig.org for your use.

Well this is my own opinion and experience.
