Can someone please download the following file (or part of it) and let me know how fast it comes? Faster connections are better for this :) Thanks!

2nd line is back up - more tests are welcome :) Preferrably from other datacenters etc so I can see what people with real fast connections are topping out at.

I notice that you have given speed reports from four different companies... how do you do this?

Does this mean that the person who posted the above has four different internet access accounts... one with each of the above mentioned companies?

We have a bandwidth cap on our AffordableColo based machines right now, so not much use testing it from there :)

No, they have either a dedicated server or shared hosting account w/ each of these companies. They just log-into the server, type a command to download the file and you've got it.

~105 kbps (1.5 mpbs cable modem connection)

~40 kpbs (rackshack -- usually it's about ~500 - ~1.5 kbps, but this is RS)

~3.26 mpbs (Site5)

~3.05 mpbs (webreseller)

~590.82 KB/s average (peer1)

(The cable modem is my own connection, it is usually faster. The rackshack, webreseller and peer1 servers are some people's server's I have access to. Site5 is a dedicated server of mine). I have access to other data centers, but some of the people above have already posted about them, and this is a pretty good average anyway.

Hmm, must be the routing for some of these servers.

I.e., I usually find FTP to netscape is pretty fast.

My cable connection:

wget ftp.netscape.com/pub/communicator/english/4.79/windows/windows95_or_nt/complete_install/cc32d479.exe

~1.5 mpbs (top speed and a little over even)

From rackshack:

wget ftp.netscape.com/pub/communicator/english/4.79/windows/windows95_or_nt/complete_install/cc32d479.exe
--15:53:30-- http://ftp.netscape.com/pub/communicator/english/4.79/windows/windows95_or_nt/complete_install/cc32d479.exe
=> `cc32d479.exe.1'
Resolving ftp.netscape.com... done.
Connecting to ftp.netscape.com[205.188.212.76]:80... connected.

Length: 23,609,425 [application/octet-stream]

100%[========================================================================================>] 23,609,425 1.20M/s ETA 00:00

From site5: ~3.76mpbs

Must be a routing issue...
