View Full Version : Expired domain with "FREE Namezero"
HeReDaGo 05-07-2002, 10:05 PM Two years ago, I made the mistake to register a domain with Namezero and it expired on May 6, 2002.
My question is .. what is the way to get this domain ?? (obviously, I'm gonna pay for it)
Abu Mami 05-08-2002, 12:18 AM Namezero hasn't sent you an offer yet? When my Namezero domain expired, I got offers from them on an almost daily basis. The price finally came down to around 5 or 6 bucks.
In any case, you can either wait till it's released by them, or buy it from them. Did you try logging into your account and then doing an upgrade?
HeReDaGo 05-08-2002, 08:35 AM I subscribed more than 2 years ago so they sent me these daily offers one year ago when it was gonna expire for the fisrt time and at that time they also registered the .net and .org of the domain even if I didn't asked them to do it :-\ Now, they released the .net and .org but I would like to own the .com
When I log into my account, I can upgrade to "plus" for 15$ But I'm a poor student from canada and with terrific exchange rates, I can't afford that, I think I will have to wait :bawling:
HeReDaGo 05-11-2002, 11:21 PM anyone?
AcuNett 05-12-2002, 12:48 AM You can wait until it's expired and then register it with someone else such as godaddy

Acunett just meant, "...wait until it drops..."
$15 doesn't sound unreasonable to me. If the domain is worth it (or being used), might be a good idea to make sure you retain it and come up with the 15 clams. Just one chicken's opinion...
darkhunter 05-31-2002, 06:01 PM My experience with namezero was very poor.
Even when the domain expiers they will probably hang onto it.
I would just buy it and then transfer it away.
fritz 06-03-2002, 03:34 PM good luck to you!
here is what happened to me.
1) registered with namezero for free (1 year)
2) 1 year later they said i have to pay for it and i did. (2 years)
3) then i transferred to namecheap adding 1 more year (3 years)
i started year 2000. i expect my domain to last until 2003 right? wrong. namezero registered my domain for TWO years. thus, when i transferred to namecheap, i got my domain until 2004! cool!
but concerning your problem, you may have to wait longer for your domain since namezero registers domains for 2 years. unfortunately for them i transferred to a different registrar.
so far so good, i love namecheap. :) thanks to all the people here in WHT who helped me decide.
same as you i am on a tight budget. my main purpose i got my domain is for my family to have our own email address.
well, good luck to you!
John-Kevin 06-04-2002, 03:21 PM Namezero drops domains about a month after they expire.
So your domain expired 6 May 2002 ... check its availability a month after and you may be lucky. ';)'
HeReDaGo 06-04-2002, 04:23 PM thx for the info :)
and that's what I'm doing, I'm checking it everyday and I also subscribed to a free snapnames services.
i heard a registrar have 45 days to drop a domain otherwise it have to pay the renewal fee to internic?
I've heard from some people that namezero doesn't drop the domain for 2 years. Check other posts in this forum.
fritz 06-19-2002, 02:26 PM yup!
that's what happened to me. they didn't want to drop my domain for 2 years.
bad thing for them is that i transferred to another registrar.
i got another year for free after i paid for 1 year with them.
i was expecting my domain to last until 2003 only but because of their grip on my domain i got my domain until 2004. :)
note: you are forced to pay for the one year with them before you can "freely transfer" your domain. OR wait for 2 years.
StarGate 06-19-2002, 07:44 PM NameZero = NetSol... I never figured out wtf but it is as they owned the net. They keep all expired domains as if they don't pay for them
