I am looking at possibly getting a few amd servers. I was curious as to which motherboard is preferred/has the least amount of problems. Most will have freebsd and some redhat. I know there is abit, asus, gigabyte....not sure which to get thou :)
Thanks in advance

Hi,
Many have found Gigabyte GA-7DX motherboards quite reliable. They use the 761 chip, so you can run ECC registered DDR2100 memory. You may not be able to find the board anymore. Might try the GA-7DX+.
Anandtech used to use this board in their old servers. I read one of their articles that, IIRC, said they never had any problems.
I've run W2K, FreeBSD 4.5 and Redhat 7.2 just fine. On my desktop system, I use a single head Matrox 400 card that works great with the 3.3.6 version of Xfree86 that comes with FreeBSD 4.5. This may not matter to you if you don't run X-windows (on your server).
This AMD board has been rock solid for many folks.
Hope this helps,
Louis

I don't like AMD on a server, but ...
There are two cool server mobo manufacturers - Tyan and Microstar. Better use their products for server as there are some difference between desktop and 1U.

We have been using Tyan boards in both servers and workstations for many years and have never had one fail yet.
