View Full Version : Advertising
Swizi 02-18-2006, 08:41 PM Hi,
OK, I understand there's loads of threads like this, I'm trying to look for a decent advertiser, where I can get views, either CPM, or CPC.
Don't bother about google, they are good, but I'm looking to spend under $100 atm, so I can get the feel of it.
So, if anyone could post suggestions, I'll try a couple of sites (please note: don't post sites which have a minimum spend).
And once I've found one I like, I'll stick with them, one or two, no idea.
I know It'd be more effective if I spent a few hundred, maybe thousands, but I'm no big spender in this area.
Banner/Button (you know, block ones) or text advertising is nice.
Also, post your experiences with them, I'd love to know.
Thanks in advance.
Real-Hosts 02-18-2006, 08:49 PM AdWords? I know that's google, but it's good, and $100 will start you off well.
manatee123 02-18-2006, 10:14 PM I use Google AdWords and have been thinking of trying out some alternatives as well. Here is an interesting article on this topic that provides some interesting metrics and comparisons: http://marketingexperiments.com/see/1067
manatee123 02-18-2006, 10:15 PM Oh, by the way, the article I posted above claims you can increase your gross sales by 15-20% using alternatives. Though the experiments showed mixed results so I doubt that this statistics would necessarely apply to any business who did this. Obviously, it would be important to run your own experiments on where you can get the best Return on Investment.
Swizi 02-19-2006, 12:18 AM Thanks for the replies, I will have to search for myself.
This has been asked a few times and I would search around on the forums for an answer. All I can say is that if you have to ask where/how to advertise, you need to reevaluate your target market and target clientelle. Don't just try and target anyone and everyone, you need to pick as specific of a target client as possible and then figure out how to best serve them.
If you haven't decided who you're trying to target, then this is a good chance to do just that!
matt4 02-19-2006, 09:02 AM Is google adwords actually effective and worth the cost? I see lots of threads about people who use it.
Ariel74 02-19-2006, 04:42 PM It's very expensive... even with very specific keywords, I had a $2,500 AdWords bill for December... whether or not its worth it depends on your budget and what keywords you're using.

Did you get a fair amount of sign-up's? I've heard of people paying $1,000 and up with no luck what so ever...
IGobyTerry 02-19-2006, 05:23 PM I have had some experiences with Adwords in the past, throwing about $3,000 total at them. While we did get an increase of customers, it was at a rate of approx. $85 a customer. You're going to struggle increasing brand exposure using an advertising solution such as Adwords, as it is a very saturated market. If possible, I would recommend consulting with an outsourced agency that can come up with an advertising plan for your business which may greatly increase your chances of success.
Swizi 02-19-2006, 05:44 PM Like I said, I didn't want adwords, I tried it before, spent so much, and got 1 customer, so it worked out $100 odd dollars, and she ended up being a scammer, so I gave up on that.
Any others? Where do you get your advertising from?

I've done advertising through a number of different venues. I could rattle off some that didn't work (Adwords, adveritising on lifelesspeople.com, and a few other specific websites), but the ones that do work ... well those are what are considered trade secrets. You're not going to have people spoon feed you on where to advertise. You need to seek out, and find those yourselves. As I said before, it may be worthwhile to consult with a marketing consultant who will be able to come up with a plan for your specific website.
Swizi 02-19-2006, 07:20 PM Gees, I was just asking. No need to be like that. Next time I wont bother.
It woldn't just be helping me, but others who read this.

This is business. Even though I'm here to help, it is still business. While there is a great community here, and people help out one another quite often, we are all still competitors. You can't expect to be spoon fed on where to place your advertising. Where one host has success with their advertisement, doesn't always mean you'll have any success with yours. Rather than expect me to tell you where to place your advertising, over riding mine, and possibly wasting your money, I've given you the advice of hiring someone who does this on a full time basis, and has considerbly more experience and more knowledge in the specific field.
