View Full Version : Reliable, Low-Cost Registrars?
apakuni 02-18-2006, 05:13 PM Hello,
I am a current GoDaddy and Registerfly customer. Service with both companies has been spotty at best (see other post). I would like to find one reliable registrar in the same price range with similarly robust toolsets. Once found, I'd like to move all 70 of my domains there.
If Yahoo or Google were to enter this market, I'd be all over it. Yahoo is sniffing around, but has not taken the full leap yet. So, any reccomendations?
len fischer 02-18-2006, 05:15 PM Yahoo is a search company man, they try to get into other areas but have not done well. You will find almost all registrars are good/bad. I have yet to find anyone flawless, If the price is right and you do not need support that much go for cheap.
apakuni 02-18-2006, 05:21 PM Len - Thanks for the insight on Yahoo.
Also, for anyone making reccomendations ...
I do not need hosting. I have a quarter cage in a local datacenter where I'll be dropping 5 servers shortly. I plan to run my own DNS. I just need a reliable, inexpensive registrar. If they have a reseller program, all the better.

Yahoo does not meet either your "reliable" or "robust" criteria. They are currently offering domains at $4-$5 below their cost but I doubt that they can sustain this. At $9 regular & renewal pricing there better much better places to register or renew your domains.
Reliable, Low-cost is an oxymoron when applied to registrars.
NameCheap is highly recommended by most people in these forums, $8.88, but I think there's a coupon code to reduce that to $7.95. I've used them for a short time without any need for support, which is supposed to be pretty good.

Get-Acom 02-18-2006, 08:25 PM I have a Enom reseller account.
Instead I register my names at
Moniker.
cheaper price, less issues and by far much better customer service.
using moniker depends what services you need.
example: enom has clubdrop so they cna further rape you.
moniker has no such service.
Moniker have SnapNames as their preferred auction partner.
Acsiak - Andrew 02-19-2006, 09:19 AM To be honest, I can't see why you would be all over Google or Yahoo if they were in the registration market. I, on the other hand, wouldn't touch 'em with a barge pole.
Personally I've been using RegisterFly for quite a few years now and on the whole I've had few problems. They have a wide variety of TLDs and ccTLDs on offer and their prices are good. It's true that support can be slow, but they've an employee who browses these boards and he's always willing to give a helping hand.
Dave Zan 02-19-2006, 09:20 PM This is a major drawback to .com domain names: providers who continue charging
less than $6 (the current actual cost of .com) will give many people the impression
they'll get quality customer support at that price.
You won't.
Unless the .com Registry reduces the .com fee (currently run by Verisign), the only
viable option you probably have is to sign-up as a reseller for a registrar.
Get-Acom 02-19-2006, 09:25 PM every place has problems.
whats important about that is, how often and how they are dealt with.
price is only part the equation.
reliable service and support to go with it.
far as regfly goes, they ahven't well impressed me at all.
infact their spam nuisance is reason enough to avoid them.
after all, how many of you go chase down a spammer and give them money?
lower prices are not always the best deal.
frankly i haven't checked lately, but i dont think refly gives a better price on .com's than i already get. add to that the endless spams and the horror stories... why should i risk spending money with them? even if cheaper, can't be by much.
the bad reps and regfly spam is reason enough to avoid them.
i do have domains at regfly. hence i knwo how mcuh they spam!!!!
as far as usage problems, ahven't had any, my domains just sit there. so how hard is that for them?
yet they do mess up the only way they can.... spamming me, which goes straight to the trash, UNREAD.
only other way they could mess me up, will be at transfer/renewal time.
in otherwords, strictly as a place holder, they run afoul even.
