They didn't buy Mars. They got it for free with their purchase of Jupiter.

I was going to say it would make more sense as microsoft.mars, but thinking about it, mars.microsoft makes even more sense. Mars would be part of the Microsoft empire, and of course Microsoft would be the TLD for the empire.

LOL wow, big enough TLD?

Ah, yes I can see it now. Microsofts advertisment: "Live on Mars in Microsoft Plaza Apartments for only 1,000,000,000 a month! Wait, that is not all, you'll also get your own personal computer!"

Maybe that statement was just a hyperbole?

Like they were emphasizing how the growth of Microsoft will soon result in them dominating the solar system. Err... I'm not quite sure how to explain it.

Anyways, you ARE able to purchase property on mars.

Well, It IS strange, but supposedly it's legitimate.

They had the guy on my local TV station.

How could this be real? It can't since we don't even "own" the planet(s) in the first place.

I don't really know the answers to those questions... one of my local news stations did a report on his business. The guy was in a mall selling these properties, he made around 1000+ sales that day.

And from the website:

"All of our property has been legally obtained from the Lunar Embassy in Rio Vista California.

Our Ambassadorship has been authorized by Dennis M. Hope, who filed a declaration of ownership for Earth's Moon and the planets Mars, Venus, Mercury, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, Pluto as well as their respective moons, on November 22, 1980.

This declaration of ownership was initially filed at the San Francisco County offices and then filed with the U.S.A., U.S.S.R., and the General Assembly of the United Nations. A copy of this declaration is included with every property purchase.

This insures that Dennis M. Hope has the right to sell these properties to us, and that we can legally sell these properties to you."

What I wonder is who do you pay to buy another planet? Also I wonder what they are planning to do with a planet? I would never set foot in a spaceship operating on Windows, I can tell you that much! It would really suck to get a blue screen in the middle of nowhere.. LOL!

roflmao.... the moment any person, nation or corporation establishes a steelement or settlements on another planet and/or the moon will be the day those papers are null and void, after all, what we gunna do, nuke em off the place to where they claimed?

Its no different than what happened when the US was colonized. Wars were fought and indians were removed/conquered (depending on how u look at it) and we claimed it.

So... when the time actually comes for someone to be able to *own* the moon, will be the day when we can actually send postal mail to the moon :)
