I have heard from different sources that the Raq5 will be introduced soon. Does anyone have any info on possible new models and offerings!

Thanks,

well if the new Raq's have more control panel functions and they don't downgrade software when you install an upgrade, I'll give them a shot. Come to think of it the only problems with my current Raq's were caused by me or my techs setting something wrong or changing something.

not that i think cyrix are bad! i actually liked the VIA-made ones! and the prices are great.

i wonder if a newer cyrix would hold up well for webhosting. hmmm.

I think if Raq5 released, so Raq4 Dedicated Server will be cheaper?

A lot of that depends on the pricing of the RaQ5's. I suspect due to decreased demand that some lower RaQ4 pricing is inevitable, though.

Well my thoughts are that if they drop the XTR line as well then the Raq 5's are gonna be priced too high.

The XTR's are way out of the price range for what they are considering I can build a server with matching specs for 1/3 of the cost, But I will admit that it's nice to have them ready in the box to bail me out if I have a sudden burst of new signup's

The Raq 4's "should" be cheaper I'm just hoping the Raq 5's won't be $2k+ a pop. They should offer upgrade kits for the base models so they can be upgraded to support RAID, SCSI, etc. but this is Sun that I'm talking about  So I guess we can forget that idea.

Although I have *zero* knowledge of the upcoming pricing, I would suspect they're all gonna be $2k+ a pop. Think about it, even RaQ3's were $2500 2.5 years ago.

I would hate to see anything in the XTR stratosphere though, upwards of $5K for those things was WAY too much. Even a base XTR runs you what, $3500? No thanks, not for me.

If Sun offered a moderately powerful server appliance, with updated (current) hardware - for around the $2K mark - they'd sell the $h|t out of them.

That is all I can remember about the New Raq5 that was delivered to me by the Fedex man the other night. I have forgotten many of the details since I woke up from that dream to the screaming sounds of failing fans in the Raq2 I have in my bedroom. Do Dreams ever come true?
