Hi guys and gals,
I am a wee bit green around the gills. So far I've been doing okay reading and searching for answers.

Today I had my DNS entries moved over from my virtual account to my little Raq2 server. One of my primary email addresses moved with this. So I have to reset my local email clients to fetch mail from the new server. But I dont have any idea what the incoming mail server should be.

I can enable shell access and see that my mail is residing on the server (thank GOD for pine). But I really prefer to limit shell access only to the admin user.

Thanks for the help

Hi Mindy,

I only use the RaQ3 and RaQ4, so the process may vary a bit for the RaQ2, but this should get you in the neighborhood.

If you follow the directions to the letter when you set up your server, then 'www.yourdomain.com' will probably work for incoming and outgoing mailserver. You did set up the DNS on your server, right?

Here's how I configure all of my client domains:

A record: domain.com
A record: www.domain.com
A record: mail.domain.com
MX record: high priority mail server mail.domain.com

then on a RaQ3/4, I put domain.com in the web server alias field, and domain.com, mail.domain.com on the mail server alias field.

Your mail client should then be set with mail.domain.com for incoming and outgoing mail server.

Note that if you just put your main server IP in your mail client, that should work as well.

Hope this helps. If you need more info, feel free to PM me.

Brandon

Thanks for the info,
I created the records and saved the changes, but locally, my email client still reports that it can't connect to mail.domain.com or to the IP address.

I've sent a message to the hosting company and should get an answer in the morning. Thank golly I'm in my 30 day free Q&A period for the next week.

Thanks again for you willingness to help!
