ok guys im just about to sign up with purple-paw.com has anyone had any experiences with them?

I don't have any experience with them on the hosting level. But I have dealt with Chris, and he's a pretty good guy. That may not mean much to you, but it does go a long way in this business.

i've been talking to chris quite a bit, and he seems good and a nice enough guy but i dont want to fall into the trap again where you get good pre sales service and non existent aftersales
