When listing favorite Web design companies, PixelBrick and 2Advanced usually top the lists. But this site, Chopping Block, has an absolutely LOVEABLE design -- and a very, very deep and well-known client list.

Yea, I have to chime in about this. It is a really nice design, but to be honest, it really isn't anything spectacular. I could easily design something equal to that. And by no means to I call myself anywhere near the best. I also do not know why everyone praises pixelbrick so much.. I mean yea, there good, but 90% of their project are simply not that difficult. Hostrocket, photonex, etc. Could be design quite easily by a competent designer.. Now.. As for 2advanced. Now there is a true designer. Not just the extreme level of difficulty his projects are on, but also just the pure creativity that stems from him. I could name alot of designers equal to pixel brick, and the one you mentioned, but people are right about 2advanced, i've only seen around 2 other designers that are as good or as creative as him.

What I think is really great (including that music) is that they break from the "oh we're such serious graphic designers we can't be bothered with trivial humor" image that some of the less successful design firms seem to think is important. Apparently not, based on their client list.

Wow, you are confused. You actually believe that the qualitity of design is based on its complexity? Wow. That is, I don't mean to insult you, but that is insane. I'm not going to go on a long rant about this, but just open up your eyes.

I do not need to prove skills to you, nor anyone else. That isn't even my point that I could do it. Are you that blind? I was meaning that alot of people could, I just happened to include myself. I will repeat the truth. Alot of people could. I never once, not once said he was unskilled, or the site sucked, or even that he was just an 'o.k.' designer. I will admit, whoever designed that is talented. I am just not going to jump up and down and say wow!

Also, it looks like you were a little defensive of pixelbrick, and while you tell me complexity does not equal quality, that can be true, but can also be very false. With complexity comes original ideas, and imagination. I also never said pixelbrick did not put out quality work. They do, and reccommend anyone wanting a good, quality site, hire them. All I was saying, and will say again, since you have seemed to have missed my entire point somehow, is that pixelbrick, does not put out all that of fantastic, originial work. 2Advanced does. This is no where near a slam on pixelbrick.

Anyways. I would just like to leave this one as, we have different points of view. And not go on debating.

I'm sure you are a competent designer with many satisfied clients, I did not mean to attack this fact at all.

I'm terribly sorry, when I read your first post I only read "Complexity = Quality" since your main comments on the various companies had to deal with complexity of site designs.

But I agree with you hear, it is pointless to debate on persoanl interpretations of what is good and what is not :D

If you look around, there's lots of interesting stuff, like an online game to play. Also, if you mouseover the lower part of the window, below the bottom orange line, it opens and a bunch of oranges drop into the pane. You can pick up one of the oranges and carry it over to the chopping block in the same pane and drop it to see some of their experimental projects.

And I still love that theme by They Might Be Giants. If you mouseover the bird on the bottom left you can download the MP3 file -- which I did, naturally!
