I am looking to hire a remote Linux pro to manage the systems administration side of our company. This is a new phase for my company as we are currently outsourcing the work to a management company as well as an individual admin. What I am looking for is to establish a long-run relationship with someone who is able to grow with the company.

Currently we have the following situation:
1) 3 Dual Xeon servers running a custom programmed Java application. We will be adding more servers in the future and specs have been created by our lead coder on how new servers should be initiall setup and configured.
2) 2 Dedicated Servers using whm/cpanel with many customized resellers & DNS. (One of them the backup harddrive is broken and needs replacing. I cannot justify the 4 hours downtime that is needed by the servermatrix to "test, confirm, and replace".
3) A VPS server at EuroVPS for webhosting in the european market.
4) A shared account with site5.com that still exists because the cost is low and there's really no reason to move the sites.

What is coming within the next 6 months is that we want to move all of our servers into a collocation environment. There is additionally a need for a server in Pakistan and shortly there will be a need for servers that can handle the asian market (Phillipines, China, Taiwan). All of the colo servers will need to be interlinked as they share data heavily.

We further will be creating our own CMS in Java that will not be relying on the WHM/Cpanel platform. (Expected to begin work in about 3 months and be completed somewhere in the neighbourhood of 12 months).

What I'm looking for in a sys admin
I need someone who is not just a techie who needs to have everything explained & broken down into deliverables. What I'm looking for is someone who is very talented with linux, well versed with Apache/WHM/Cpanel & creating DNS entries etc., and also very importantly able to learn quickly. For instance, hosting .de domains requires different C-Class IP addresses for each domain. We do SEO work also so sometimes my requests will seem strange (such as separating sites using DNS/IPs so they cannot be seen as linked together).

I further need someone who will act as my advisor when it comes things related to hosting. We are not a big company yet so I cannot afford to waste money by overspending on unnecessary resources. If a celeron server will be sufficient for a given project then that's what we should be using. It would then be your resonsibility to track this server and make a recommendation in advance when the server would need an upgrade, when to move sites, etc.

Downtime is an absolute killer for me right now. For instance this backup harddrive issue at servermatrix. Before the server is shut down the mission critical sites should be resolved to another server so they do not experience downtime (You are familiar with the workings of a company like changeip.com right?).

You will be working with a very small team of talented individuals and will be groomed towards becoming a manager (if you need to outsource to hire some juniors then this is ok). On issues related to the websites you'll be working either with myself or our lead java coder.

How much will you be paid
This is open to negotiation and will depend upon two factors. 1) Your level of experience & skill, and 2) The anticipated work load. This is an exploration process for me also as I'm not sure how much work this will be for a good sys admin. It might be a matter of setting things up and then outsourcing administration to juniors. I'll be looking to you to help me understand the roles, responsibilities, and expectations I can have from you.

If this sounds interesting
Please send me your resume/CV and preferably also a cover letter on your reaction to this posting. My company is hurting right now in terms of systems administration & I'm sure we're overpaying for our servers. Let me know your thoughts & questions.

Kind Regards,
Chris

I would suggest you to go for a Dedicated SysAdmin as a part time sysadmins will not be able to give you good inputs but a person who is going to work for you on regular basis will give you more inputs and will do everything to gorw your company..I am saying this from my personal experience.
