Yes.. I noticed that earlier. BUT their original URL Stargateinc (http://www.stargateinc.com/) is working just fine. :)

Use stargateinc.com. Stargate.com is on a different set of DNS. Appears the other DNS are down. But everything at stargate is fine.

Also noticed that stargate.com was down but stargateinc.was up. The worst is that I changed the dns pointers of two of domains, and checked another one. Guess what. The IPs for the DNS of that are gone. I don't know if it is just the form or if they are realy gone. The site still up. I'm wayting for the DNS propagation (how long does that take? It has been more than 24 hours) to see what is hapenning.

I have registered 2 domains with them a week ago. Since that time when I do whois I get only

Stargate Whois:
Unable to connect to whois.stargateinc.com
No Connection Made

When I check other names (older) registered with them, I am (*sometimes / rarely *) able to connect.

I guess I am switching to another domain registrar after my 1 year with Stargate

Well, honestly, Stargate was great for my first year. But I've been noticing a lot of changes that ... well ... may be signs that the company might be in trouble....
-- Customer service via phone is no more. Instead they have web-based (via ticket) support.
-- Customer service is SLOW and they don't seem to read the whole problem thus answering with the same suggestions again and again.
-- Site is slow and down sometimes.
-- Fees went up.
-- They're charging for Domain Lock -- something that's free from other registrars.

*sigh* I don't know. I still 'like' them, but it's getting to the point where I might just move all my domains elsewhere. :(

The items listed above are ways to increase profit. Isn't that what it's all about?. It's the sub-10 and sub-9 registrars that should be your concern. Not enough profit to support a registrar.

Looking at the most recent SnapNames report, stargate.com is a top 10 gaining registrar and a top 20 registrar in total domains held. They must be doing something right.

I have personally never noticed slowness and am very pleased at the price per services value I receive.

But I consider it unconscionable that they raised their renewal fees 57% overnight. No fair warning to current customers who have been their since the beginning. No consideration towards those that helped them build their business through word of mouth advertising.

The more I pay Stargate, then the less I have to support my family. At this point, Stargate won't even respond to my requests for bulk pricing information. They are making it clear that they don't want my business anymore.

So if they don't respond soon, I'm packing up my domains and moving elsewhere...

It's called capitalism.

You can still register domains at their old rate of 8.85 by registering two or more domains through DomainXpress.

My sales contact over their is dwelbourn@stargateinc.com. I never have any problems with response times from him.

Yes you can still get good rates bulk registering, but when it comes time to renew, it is my understanding (someone correct me if wrong) that you will pay the single domain rate.

Incognito,

You are correct... (you are always correct ;) ). For two or more domains registered at the same time, it is $8.85 for the first year and then $13.95 for annual renewal.

That is why I was interested in the bulk pricing. It is my understanding that Stargate has a bulk purchase plan and if you prepay for "domain credits", they will sell you them for:

20-50 domains: $8.85
51-150 domains: $8.00
151-250 domains: $7.50
251-500 domains: $7.25
501+ domains: $6.75

But I was trying to verify with my inquiry to them was whether these "domain credits" could be used for renewals. Also whether they were going to develop a reseller API on *nix versus Windows.

I like their customer control panel, (best one I've used), but I'm thinking of trying out www.Directi.com because of their cheap prices. (Directi has no reseller API yet, though).

I have a bulk account and can confirm that the credits purchased can be applied to renewals and transfers.

Don't get me wrong, I like Stargate, but their price increase kinda got me upset.

Thanks again...
