I am wanting to add the shoutcast service to my webhosting plans. Does anyone know of a problem free addon script / program for cpanel? I have tried one before but it had many issues around PHPSuExEc and permissions for the hosted sites, so I scrapped that one.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated

Thank you

Gary

I'd also be interested in offering the same service to my customers. Are you looking for an actual server-wide installed program that would show up in he cPanel CP? How do you see your customers as using ShoutCast? If you'd like, we can do a mutual search and compare notes, as I have a prodution server I can do test runs on.

I'd also like to know what kind of CPU load and bandwidth an instance of shoutcast is likely to use. Since I know nothing about this information, any information would be helpful. I also wanted to subscribe to this thread :)

Thanks,

I am looking for a server wide shoutcast on. Well I would see my customers using it based off there web package (diskspace and alotted bandwidth) it would be there choice how they would spend there quota's ;) I would be interested in such a thing also doing some research with more then one person is always helpful.

Thanks

Shoutcast and Web hosting on the same server is a very bad idea.

Secondly, you can use cast control, its a web based control panel for shoutcast. you can google it.

Shoutcast uses very very little cpu and ram, it can run on the worst of computers, unless you're encoding into other bitrates on-the-run. Bandwidth is the big killer.

It's better to keep it separate. And if you are willing to pay a bit, get SCPanel. I was reluctant to buy it for our services but it works just great. If you have CPanel, it makes your work easier but I would recommend you dedicate that server only for SHOUTcast as mentioned above.
