Why it's so popular?
You can use CMS to publish news easily with customised theme, layout ...
It will simplify the job ;)
RajanUrs 02-10-2006, 01:15 AM With Cpanel / Fantastico hosting you/your clients can auto install many CMS like phpNuke, Mambo, Xoops, Drupal etc
CMS can be of various kinds. You can also get many modules which can be integrated into a CMS. For example you get osCommerce/phpBB modules for Xoops.[Many other modules too....check out xoops.org.] You can also get cms experts to custom build these modules or enable other scripts to function with the main CMS engine.
basic 02-10-2006, 10:03 AM Joomla! seems to be the most popular CMS these days, judged from requests we get.
cPanel has this if Fantastico script installer is included, and Plesk has it if the host has installed it in the Application Vault (not there as default), and DirectAdmin has it if it comes with Installatron script installer. Not sure about Ensim and others. Of course, you can always install it to any Linux account downloading the script at: http://www.joomla.org

So many people have made free addons for them that will help advance your site. They are pretty much like a really advanced site builder that is easy to use and full of features.

They are almost exactly the same, they had some of the same developers. Joomla has a better plan for future upgrades, so they would be the best choice to go with.

What are they?
A method of quickly and easily organizing and publishing content to the web
Why are they so popular?
For personal/very small business - quickly and easily publish and manage a website
For Corporate to Enterprise Customers - ability to organize content representing various divisions. Function as an intranet for human resources, sales and marketing, etc - allow each department to manage and organize their own content, etc, etc, etc...
CMS Solutions are changing the way that companies communicate with customers, employees and vendors
Wh are they popular? - the huge cost savings they represent to organizations of any size....
TekPrime 02-10-2006, 06:40 PM They are basically the same - I believe some Mambo developers left and reformed as Joomla
Actually, it is more like the entire development team left Mambo due to serious disagreement with the management (Miro International). They regroup shortly after and choose a new name "Joomla!". Meanwhile, Mambo gets a completely new development team. The latest versions of both are quite similar but will definitely diverge in the future. Joomla v1 is actually the latest Mambo code, at the time of the split.
keliix06 02-10-2006, 08:12 PM Mambo->Joomla is so popular because it has won many awards over the last few years, creating a lot of buzz.
Over 90% of our users use one of the systems and we get asked the "Which one is better" question a lot. Really you need to look at the roadmaps and figure out which one is going the direction you want it to.
Personally, I prefer Joomla for a few reasons. The entire team that made Mambo what it is is now developing Joomla. I prefer the usability of Joomla over Mambo (the differences are very subtle but when you spend hours working on them it's noticable :) ). I know some of the Joomla core team.

thanks for confirming that - I knew I was on the right lines!

No real reason to push cpanel/fantastico - every control panel has some sort of auto-installer...
having said this, you should never install a business application using an auto-installer - take the 10 mins to install manually or find a host that will do this for you....
cunning 02-10-2006, 11:50 PM Well Cartika,
Most clients want to get things automated else there would not be a reason to have control panels as well;)
cartika-andrew 02-11-2006, 12:35 AM Well Cartika,

Well - again - a script installer is what it is - my main point is that it is not isolated to cpanel
RajanUrs 02-11-2006, 03:38 AM Most CMS are quite easy to install but then if you have to install them daily then an auto installer will definitely help.
One of the key features in a CMS is you can set different levels of access to different user groups/users. For instance if you use a CMS for a group of press reporters you may want to give different access levels for different users [a Example: Chief Editor, Assistant Editor, Sub Editor, Reporters, Photographers etc.]

Almost all hosting control panels nowadays offer some sort of bundled CMS script for the end-user. Hosts with Fantastico will be able to offer you a variety of bundled CMS scripts.
