Anyone know of any businesses with the acronym POE? You know, something like Pacific Oil & Electric. Reason be is because I'm trying to sell my domain POE.COM to a big company, hence hopefully big money.

It has a lot of resale potential I think. markblair 05-05-2002, 08:43 PM And the second you try to sell it to them, they could get it for free due to cybersquatting. Unless those initials link to you in some way, maybe your initials, then a company with those initials will have rights to the name. Years ago it was okay to buy a domain like ford.com and then sell it to Ford without any problems. Nowadays, that isn't possible. If you approach a company and offer to sell them a domain name that contains their trademark or business name (assuming you don't also have a demonstrable right to the name), they'll probably have an easy win if they decide instead to take you to arbitration under the UDRP. And if you're targeting big companies, they'll have the budget and/or legal team to do it. It'll be up to you to prove that your registration of the name wasn't in "bad faith." A three letter dot com name definitely has value, but you have to be careful in your approach and where you offer it. clemzonguy 05-05-2002, 11:50 PM I would sell it to someone else instead of someone who might have a stake in the name as weird as that sounds. Unless you have them draw up a contract that would state they do not consider you a squatter and that you were only giving it to them out of good faith. Then again if it was out of good faith then you wouldn't be making any type of profit of it so that blows that out of the water. I made it clear to someone that insinuated to me that we could work out a deal $$$ with a domain I registered that I did not buy my domain for the purpose of reselling to them for a profit. You have to worry about two things cybersquatting laws and trademark laws. I'd simply focus on making great websites that will in turn generate revenue and only sell generic names that hold no trademarks or associations. flitcher 05-06-2002, 07:59 AM Hi, Thanks for your input, however, no one has answered my question. All I am asking for are businesses with the acronym POE, that doesn't mean I am going to contact them, I just want to see if there are any businesses with such an acronym. I've already been contacted by individuals wanting to buy the name, one offered $2,000 but POE.com can get more. So please, just acronym's, thanks. clemzonguy 05-06-2002, 05:55 PM Peace On Earth Petrolium, Oil, and Electric Passions Of Eden bababooey 05-06-2002, 06:16 PM From the desk of Jack D. AussieHosts 05-08-2002, 12:24 PM Never heard of them before, but http://www.p-o-e.com might take it off your hands. Try a google search for POE+limited and you'll find (amongst plenty of Edgar Allan Poe sites) a number of businesses that contain that term. For example, http://www.dickpoe.fivestardealers.com (who just happens to be stuck with a subdomain there...) There are a lot of companies with the name "Poe" instead of the acronym "POE," so those are probably worth considering. |
