I have a half-dozen hobby sites registered through domainsarefree (tucows), myvaluehost (also tucows), and 1and1. As the domain names come up for renewal I've been considering transferring them to 1and1. This is just domain registration, not hosting.

So the question is, has 1and1 been behaving itself lately? (All I see in the Search are threads about 1and1 hosting, which is not what I'm after).

I also have a name with namecheap, and I could transfer everthing else there, but 1and1 is cheaper. As the sites are just hobby sites, there's no possibility of a return on investment to justify higher costs.

some says it been good, some said transfering out from 1and1 is a nightmare

in your case you dont want to transfer out so it would be OK IMO

If you already have 1 or 2 sites with them you should already know the answer you are seeking

As of Feb 02/2007, they are still obstinate, obtuse and difficult to deal with.

Too bad I registered a single domain as an experiment to find that out. Now I need to take it with me to someplace more flexible. The 2 bucks I saved is definitely not worth it.
