How you trust the people you hire them for remote position?
If yes, would you give them the root access to the server?
If yes, what if they change your root password and mess up your server?
thanks for your time,
Charlie:lovewht:

The trust relationship takes time to build. Just don't abuse your employees! =)

I don't trust them. Your experiences as you go along tends to lead you that way.

It's different however, if the person for example has an obviously established business URL.

Every remote job or contract I've secured, has been through word-of-mouth. My reputation speaks for itself. Folks know I am retentive about security, and I do solid work. I could build one of those "six degrees" diagrams for my business dealings...

When checking references, be thorough. I don't know that it is possible to be thorough (to the level necessary) when hiring people cold, out of the blue (like taking applications)... I would put a lot more weight in recommendations I received from people that I know and trust. A friend or trusted associate is going to be free with details and isn't going to recommend a shmuck.

Sometimes it takes time. And time is something that one might not have if your server is down.

At least check the references and hopefully someone has been found when the server is not having problems. :) I always ask for recommendations and call / email them. And if I email them, I check the IP address and the domain name (if possible) of the person I am emailing.

It's different however, if the person for example has an obviously established business URL.I would have to agree with you on this one. But with the "business" having a domain name that needs to be checked out as well. 25 years ago, if the business did not have a toll-free phone number it was not considered legitimate. Now you need to have a domain name, but since they are so easy to get doing a simple whois to see how long the domain name has been owned by that person always helps.

Yep, if you trust on referer you are indirectly trusting to that person you are going to hire.

Well in some circumstances one cannot be there to do every little part, so in all someone you know and trust should be in the position. Frankly word online can be much more pliable depending on the position they are getting to.

I could randomly meet you one day and have conversations with you, have a phone call, face to face meeting, and still in the long run turn on you without a hint of remorse. Watch the movie Meet Joe Black, it shows everything you need to know about being corrupt when it comes to one of the characters.

In all I would reccommend getting someone from a trusted site such as WHT for one can easily build a decent if not suitable reputation here.
