View Full Version : Free Control Panel ? Any Good One out there?
Energizer Bunny 02-05-2006, 05:59 PM Hello,
I know i know its been asked like million times here , but i have looked at various free control panels listed here , tried webcp but wow it wont work on centos 4.2 , and vhcs wont even try cause its clearly written NOT WORKING in their instructions for Centos 4.X , so there goes vhcs . Someone suggested Cubepanel.com but i am not sure if that would be good for the server (p4 3 ghz 1 gb) as it seems a bit bulky.
So anyone know any good (with good gui) for centos 4.2 with apache 2 and has anyone used webmin , is it just to administer server or does it also provide basic webhosting sort of control panel.
Also i would like a control panel which uses vftpd instead of proftp.
So has anyone any clue to which free control panel could be used?
BlazeHD 02-05-2006, 06:34 PM You've named all the ones I know that are free. Look them up on sourceforge or hotscripts. You should be able to get a few more. Cubepanel isn't bad though and they do have a demo on thier site.
Energizer Bunny 02-06-2006, 12:47 AM Well i like glphost or something like that but not sure if it supports Centos 4.2 or have the right files for it, so anyone used it on centos ?
Evolver 02-06-2006, 02:55 AM Well there's DirectAdmin for $299.00 owned which to me seems quite cheap compared to the other control panels.
Energizer Bunny 02-06-2006, 05:05 AM Yup it is but it has only 90 Technical support , whatever that means .
But i mean like there is not a single good free control out there?
Foolish Frost 02-11-2006, 02:03 PM I like webmin and Virtualmin....
Energizer Bunny 02-13-2006, 03:58 PM Webmin is excellent for linux administration , but i think vitualmin is paid service now.
Jimerson 02-13-2006, 05:08 PM Its normally worth kicking in at least a little cash for a paid one. They normally are much better and have better support.
mrbister 02-13-2006, 05:23 PM Webmin is excellent for linux administration , but i think vitualmin is paid service now.
So, how is Webmin as a webhosting control panel?

I would like to know if there are any free distributed, clustered ones. We would actually like to know our competitors in this area. Other than hsphere, is there any panel that allows full clustering?
Thanks.
Energizer Bunny 03-21-2006, 04:18 AM Well i ended up using ispconfig from ispconfig.org as neither vhc nor webcp were compatible with centos 4.2 . But i didnt like ispconfig much cause its harder to get hold of it than other panels. Even webmin was easier to learn.
But if you got 100$ to spend you can get digipanel from www.digipanel.com for 100$ for life and i think its great panel (atleast better than webcp and vhc and other free panels).

It's both for Windows and Linux, and it's free.
Personally I use Webmin on one of my servers.
Energizer Bunny 03-22-2006, 03:54 AM Have heard bad things about zpanel as been insecure and stuff like that, how true it is only an end user can tell.
littleswebhosting 03-22-2006, 02:24 PM VHCS is a multiuser, multilevel control panel. It is very easy to use and install (if your using debian or unbuntu). The only thing that I really did not like about it, is that the DNS is not built in to the control panel.
