Our company name is Echolima Web Services. For short we use EWS and a lot of people know us as that to. However I just realized that Eagle Web Services also uses EWS. Have you ever heard us refered to as EWS. What conflicts do you think this could create?

EWS, the Engineering workstation
EWS (English Welsh & Scottish Railway) -http://www.ews-railway.co.uk/
European Women and Sport - http://www.ews-online.com/
http://come.to/ewshideout
http://www.ewsonline.com/
Earthquake and Weather Station (EWS)
and 252,000 others.
And EWS was trademarked 9 times, and expires in 2089. So these people can get in trouble if they use it for Commerical use.
And you just found out!?
Yeshh...

Probably won't cause any issues. You can't copywrite a name, but if they have a trademark EWS you could be prevented from using that, but EWS is just an acronym for the real name & Echolima W-S is quite different to Eagle Web Services. You can do a trademark search - just use google to find the US trademark search page.
Your name Echolimia, is much more trademarkable than Eagle - it's unlikely eagle Web service would get a trademark - whereas Echolima would have a stronger case.
You're in Canada I seem to remember - not sure if the same rules apply - but overall - I don't think you have any issues to be concerned about
- Brandon was making his post above at the same time as my post - his check on EWS shows that to be a trademark, but if the industries are totally unrelated it can be okay - even if a trademark exists.

Wouldn't worry about it much unless another web hosting company uses EWS

Promote the name that will get them to your site.....say 1 million times after me....Echolima Echolima Echolima....you can do it.
Seriously, let's say they do a search on EWS. they aren't going to find you easily...or they type ews.com or .net or .whatever...again, not you. Whatever the name, it only gains added value by repetition and as long as Echolima is the true name and the web address, concentrate all your attention toward making it a recognized name. The only time to promote the acronym is if you also have that address.
Echolima...you have 999,996 times to go.

I agree...
You could trademark Echolima Web Services probably very easily - assuming its not already taken
EWS is only going to be a source of confusion & only lose you traffic in the end
