I've recently started my own web design and hosting business. I have my first web design client and im not sure if i calculated my per project rate correctly. I refered to http://webdesign.about.com/cs/salaries/a/aapricing.htm to get the price. I think the price maybe a little to high.
Can anyone help me out with pricing my web design projects?
I hate about.com! :)
More details? What are you doing exactly?

If this is your first client, and if you at the moment don't have many impressive items in your portfolio, then the quality of this project is more important than the actual price. If you do not do beautiful work (say, because the budget was not high), then the probability to get new projects based on that completed project will be low. So try to do your best regardless of the project's price... Also, if this client is very satisfied, he will go and tell 20 other people how talented and reliable you are. :peace:

The money is not that important to me. I love designing and i would do it for free but i have to survive! I dont want to overcharge or under charge.

It's pretty difficult to make a useful suggestion in this case, since a lot of factors would need to be considered, and some might be hard to figure out, or even quantify (competency, skill and speed of improvement, consistant quality outputs, etc..).
My suggestion is to leave your rates as they are, as they will no doubt rise. I find that it's generally better for returning, or word-of-mouth clients to find you with the same recommended rates, than for an eye-popping surprise after the dollar sign :D.
But in the mean time, with the slightly higher rates, there probably won't be a lot in the way of clients as it would with rock-bottom rates, so you should try to improve your skillsets dramatically by entering website contests & such. Winning doesn't matter, but the time spent competing with more experienced folks does. You could even reuse some of your entries that didn't make the cut for your clients, so it's not completely wasted.

Depends upon specific customers and prevailing competition. I think you should fix up a reasonable hourly rate and charge accordingly.
