Is there any special extra service cihost providing? I mean honestly?

A linux server dual xeon 2.0, 3x120gb raid5, 20Mbps
$3748 monthly, $5000 setup

There must be something!
I am paying 3 servers, each has 4x250gb drives with raid5 2000gb bw, 2 gb memory, intel 2.8 HT only $650/mo TOTAL!

Their server provides 20Mbps of dedicated unmetered bandwidth, while you are only allowed to use 2000gb b/w per month. Also do you have a 100Mbit port?

As adb22791 pointed out, you're not accounting for the 20 Mbps of bandwidth. (Which is a lot.)

But just for fun, I decided to price it out at SoftLayer, since I already had their site up. $449 buys a dual 2.8 GHz Xeon (dual core), 2 GB RAM, dual 250 GB (SATA II) drives, and 3,000 GB of bandwidth. 20 Mbps, assuming you filled the line 24/7, would be 6,480 GB of traffic. Less the 3,000 provided, you have 3,480 GB of overages. (!!)

Overages, in my experience, run around $0.50/GB, depending on the provider. (Although I've seen much higher figures.) So 3,480 GB at $0.50/GB is $1,740 in overage charges. (Just saying that frightens me.) Add in the $449/month for the server, and you've got $2,189 a month--around $1,500 a month cheaper. (You could spend that money towards getting the extra 2 GB to bring you up to 4 GB. And still make the monthly payments on a new car?) Oh, and don't forget the $5,000 setup fee.

Of course, this is all hypothetical. Obviously, SL is too new, so you'd probably want to go with CI. ;)

(Edit: Re-reading my post, it made it sound like this is what SL was charging. I have no clue what they charge for overages, and don't know what they'd think if you started pulling down 20 Mbps. I just had their site up in another tab from a previous discussion, and though I'd use them to establish a base price for a dual Xeon box.)

I just think it is odd that CI Host is advertising where they know they are laughed at. Do they think it will improve their reputation here? If anyone questions CI Host or searches for them based off the advertisement, they'll still see and be told the truth.

That can also be gone in a matter of minutes. Its politics. Money buys you power. It is sad to see, but that's how the world works, both public and commercial.

I saw the banner and knew there'd be a thread on this. How long until little Chrissy demands that someone remove any thread that says bad things about good old see-eye host....I wonder...hehe

Why was it uncensored if you don't mind me asking?

Does this really matter? That might not be what they want the ads to do.

Some say any news is good news and even the bad threads here at WHT can bring you lots of new signups. Same goes with the ads.

We don't know whether it is successful or not. Its a private company, so for all we know, it might be unprofitable.

Yes it is hard to argue with the collective “Pearls-of-Wisdom” of the WHT community. Especially when you get so many comments regarding service and experience from years and years ago.

I guess I should have said, “The Truth is that CI Hosts is probably a Profitable business that has been around”

A thousands apologies for … “The Truth is that CI Host is a very successful business that has been around. “

What gave them a really bad reputation here?
Most importantly (with above in mind) what happened so that they got their name back here?

Maybe they will be working hard to clean up their rep , that would be good to see.

I miss the good 'ol days.

But I suppose after 2 years... that's enough time to let CIHost maybe "try again".

Good to see WHT is forgiving.
