Are you using BIND, djbdns, or something other than those?

DNS and Bind 4th Edition, by Paul Albitz & Cricket Liu can provide you with a wealth of information regarding DNS matters.

I think what you're asking is how to "register" ns1.test123.com and ns2.test123.com as name servers. If that's the case, you must contact the Registrar you registered the domain with and have them create "host records" derived from your domain. I believe that's the term NSI uses. To do this you must have 2 IP addresses (one for each host, ns1 and ns2) that will be bound to a nameserver. They must be unique, meaning they can't be currently used as name server IPs. Once registered, it'll take about 48-72 hours to propagate and you'll be in business.

Hope this helps,

Barry

No problem.. I've found these forums to be very helpful from time to time and I'm just glad I could someone out! :D

As for the DNS and BIND book recommendation, I second, third and fourth that. It's helped me out in the past and continues to do so from time to time.
