View Full Version : I use 100GB/month and can't seem to find a host
DannyITR 05-04-2002, 01:42 PM I have to change hosts every few months because my website is too big. At first I didn't realize how much I was using. Then I was was ***** (self explanitory) and now my current host (who is new to the business) says he underestimated my usage and can't support me anymore.
What should I be paying?

Speakerguy 05-04-2002, 03:31 PM Ever consider a dedicated server? I found myself in your situation awhile back, and then just got myself a rackshack account
Its a pretty steep investment...cost me $400...but I think its really worth it...Plus Im making over $220 in ads per month from all my sites, so Im actually breaking a profit from it :)
www.rackshack.net for more info...tis ownage =)
DannyITR 05-04-2002, 05:11 PM I had a dedicated with *****. I hate them.
I guess I'll just try and get some more ads.
iamdave 05-04-2002, 06:12 PM Danny,
If you need 100GB bandwidth a dedicated is probably the best solution.
StarGate 05-04-2002, 06:17 PM ... the best thing to would be to seek someone in the same situation and then share a server with him/her.
You had a dedicated with ***** and they cant support 100GB, what rubbish.
If you know how to manage a server, get a dedicated server from either rackshack.net, tranxactglobal.com or webreseller.net.
If you want a shared environment look out for those HIGH RESOURCE account offer in the hosting specials forum. One of them are
http://www.hostinggroup.com/demanding-hosting.html
GOOD LUCK
ckpeter 05-05-2002, 11:11 AM Consider posting in the web hosting request forum asking to share server. A lot of dedicated server owners(especially rackshack) have extra transfer, and they may be able to share that with you for very low fee.
As a matter of fact, I have a rackshack server, and I plan to share it out later. I can imagine a lot of other rackshack owners would be willing to do the same. (Note: This is not self-advertisment, I am not offering it now).
Of course, it would be better if you could afford a dedicated server by yourself. But if you can't, sharing is probably your next best option.

mattan 05-05-2002, 11:31 AM ..definitely try posting this at request forum. You'd be surprised at the response that you'll receive.

Aussie Bob 05-05-2002, 11:24 PM Check out - http://webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=47626 for a great box with 100GB of HIGH QUALITY bandwidth. :)
No affiliation :)
astralexis 05-06-2002, 05:03 AM Hi,
there's a thread about zerosetup.com (http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?threadid=47208) who apparently offer a hell of a lot of bandwidth for too cheap to be true, you could try them and stay if and as long as it lasts...? Just avoid to pay for a year in advance... ;)
NexDog 05-06-2002, 08:47 AM Hey,
Just give alwayswebhosting.com $19.90 for 2x60gb plans. ;)
I think they are $9.95 each anyway. I just tried to load the site but only the top banner loaded. :D

For cost reasons we cannot allow people to buy two accounts just to double their bandwidth. If you'd like to mabye set up some sort of plan with us feel free to contact us ;)
AcuNett 05-06-2002, 11:20 PM Whoa $9.95/month for 60GB Bandwidth? That's even cheaper than Rackshack giving it!

They cant handle 60GB a month
They cant handle 16GB a month
If I add some more URL's to my htacess bet I can prove they cant even handle 6GB a week.
I haven't been hanging around here trying to find a "decent" web host for the last week for nothing ya know.

Angel78 05-17-2002, 11:35 AM Whoa $9.95/month for 60GB Bandwidth? That's even cheaper than Rackshack giving it!
Well at least it is supposed to look like that, rackshack is their provider so 400 gb/ 60 = 6,66 customers per server * 9,95 = 66,33 $ and rackshack cheapest deal is 99 $ so =NO WAY :)
Or it's a one of those unlimited compaq boxes, but imagine what happends, when you are on the same box with like 20 users pushing each around 40 gb per month?
(20 users * 9,95 $=199$ and unlimited plan costs 399$ so it has to be at least 40 users just to break even, more likely it ll be well over 50-60)
9,95 is just too low for "real" 60 gb, but as someone said you get what you pay for, and you aint gonna get 60 gb for 10 bucks , for 10$ you just enter the HNG (host number game) and they'll probably kick you if you use all of your bandwidht.
So this 60gb/9.95 is just some form of predatory pricing, not a real business plan ( my opinion)

BirdCage,
We CAN handle 60 GB or even just 16 GB/month...
I think its funny that you are hosting your site (birdcagesoft.com) with us (awh server2, 216.40.230.50). I understand you are redirecting your downloads to another server, but we have allowed you to use your full 60 GB/month in the past !

Angel, you cannot post "they'll probably kick you...", that's ridiculous! Bring your 60 GB/month site to us, we'll host it.
-- Have you hosted with us? NO.
-- Have anyone ever posted to say we kicked them off for using less than their 60 GB/month allocation? NO.

I request that you remove the derogatory comments you posted above about AWH immediately as they are unfounded, and completely un-true. I'm alerting this thread to the moderators.
