Hi,
I have a domain registered through OpenSRS from 000domains and I want to lock it, however when I log into https://manage.opensrs.com and go to 'Domain Locking' it just says ' Locking currently Disabled' and not how to enable it. Am I just being stupid here as I can't see anyway to enable it
TIA

The public Domain Manager interface does not support locking and unlocking of domains.
You'll need to use the interface at 000domains.
This is done to allow resellers to establish their own business models around domain locking.
Some are apparently planning on charging to enable locking on your domain.

A Domain Lock prevents someone from stealing your domain while you are on vacation or not answering your admin email account for some reason...
In the OpenSRS model, it also prevents changes to your nameservers, but my recent understanding is not all Registrars implement the lock in that fashion.
In order to transfer your domain, you have to go in and unlock it. Since domains can be hijacked in a number of different ways, this is one more tool that prevents the accidental loss of your domain.

Well, they've replied but they want me to send them my password to lock the domain, I don't like sending people my password and it says on their website that the support personel don't have access to passwords so how are they going to check it? Should I send it to them anyway or ask them if there's another way I can verify it's me (I would have thought emailing the contact for the domain would have been enough).
Any advise is appreciated,
Tom

I would NOT recommend that you mail anyone your password - ever.
They don't need this to lock your domain. They can lock it in the Resellers Web Interface. If they are running a recent version of the Domain Manager client on their website, you can lock your domain yourself if it's configured correctly.
If they are using your password as proof that you are the domain owner, I would ask them to use something else to verify this information...

I emailed them saying that the email address I was using was owner/admin/tech/billing and they agreed to put the lock on, they also said:
For the moment we are handling the requests via email but we will eventually combine it into our Domain Manager and Account Manager tools.
Which I suppose is a good thing,
Tom
