Hi,

As you likely know, the higher end Intel and Supermicro motherboards come with server management/control software.

How useful and important is this feature/benefit of a board in a situation where you are remotely managing your FreeBSD or Linux server in a far away co-lo?

Intel talks about their Intel Server Control/Management Software.

Supermicro talks about their Intelligent Platform Management Interface.

Any real world experiences or opinions about this or similar stuff that comes with the motherboards one can buy?

Not sure how much of a selection criteria it should be for a *nix server motherboard that will go into a system one manages remotely.

Please help by sharing about this if you know about this stuff.

Thank you,

Louis
