Hello,
I see 1and1 offering .info transferring-in with one year renewal - FREE. Just wondering... - will it be easy to transfer away? I haven't tried them so far, so have no clue about the control panel, etc. Is the EPP-Authcode easily visible? What about locking/unlocking?
Thank you for any insight.

Why not try to ask 1 and 1 yourself?

There are ways to transfer domains away through their control panel it seems, but you might need to contact their support department about the EPP code.
I've read quite a few posts where the owner of the domain has had great difficulty in transferring away their domain from 1and1. Of course it could be they were all ignorant or stupid, but you get what you pay for sometimes with those cheap prices. I've also read several posts where the owner has been charged and still had problems accessing their domains.
I think you should search google for 1and1 complaints and make up your own mind.

sorry, i think i am late ... anyway 1and1 is a kind of sux.
# 1 - they do not response instantly ( take upto 2-3 days to response )
# 2 - i have 3 domain in 1and1 but i can not transfer out : reason - that is in promotion, they are investing money on it, so you can transfer out after pay the regular .info price.
* i used 1and1 about 6 month ago so i can supplie any good idea of now and this is fully my personal comment not from our company, thanks.
I actually just purchased a couple of domains which are regged at 1and1 and in the middle of transferring them away. The process appears to be exactly the same as elsewhere. Unlock, get auth codes, put in transfer request, approve transfers away, and finally receive them in your preferred registrar. In my case, the transfers have been approved and I'm awaiting receipt of the domains. I believe I've also read other posts in the past about this same subject, where the posters have said that the problems of transferring away from 1and1 are a thing of the past.

I have had nothing but problems with 1and1 and would not recommend them to anyone who expects a half decent service. Response times are so slow it is unbelievable.

The authcode is easily retrievable from their control panel:
